Newbie with problems on Debian Sarge
I have a Debian Sarge box that I am trying to get icecast2 and ices2 up and
running on. I'm having problems, but do not know where to look to identify the
problem.
I have my audio working with ALSA - microphone in plays through my audio out.
I'm running a basic configuration using the defaults provided, and the ALSA
example config file for ices.
When I try to connect to the server using

True surround sound for Ogg -- a proposal
Hi everyone,
Over the last two weeks or so, I've been thinking about how to add surround
sound to Ogg -- and more than that, to do it in the best way possible. With
this in mind, I started considering using Ambisonic surround sound. The
advantages of this format are considerable:
a) It was developed in the early to mid '70s, so the patents should
be expired by now.

quality settings
ARGH! I am at a complete loss as to which OGG quality settings to use: 8?
10? 3?
I'd like to be able to listen to my primarily Rock oriented music on a
high-end system (though I don't own one - yet) without any noticeable sound
degradation, but I don't want to go total overkill with -q 10. With LAME, I at
least used to know 192 kbps with -q0 was a perfect size/quality proportion. I

This means that your microphone is unmuted in playback, but this does not
mean that it is "captured" for recording or that some other master record
level is not set at 0.
First, try recording and seeing if you can hear anything.

ices, alsa, dsnoop plugin a metadata update
Hello,
I found a bug by metadata updating in ices-2.0.0.
I use icecast2 server for streaming stations of Czech Radio.
Czech Radio prefers streaming in both formats mp3 and ogg.
So - I'm using DarkIce as a live audio streamer, which does encoding
to mp3 and ogg streams together.
I would like to insert textual information about actual streaming
program, but DarkIce does not support it.

Live stuff -- voice to music to voice etc. ?
Hi all,
I have the Icecast2 server running perfectly and the iceS streamer
feeding it either /dev/dsp or a playlist of ogg files, depending on
which config I run iceS with (I have three config files: one for live,
one for music, and one default (current)). I'm using Slackware w/the
2.4.22 kernel.
The problem I'm having is perhaps theoretical: how can I talk a little,
play some

wow! and what about h/w players for vorbis files?
wow! i must say vorbis deprecates mp3! lol.
although, i had to use the "OSS/3d for XMMS" plugin on my sblive value
w/ 4 point sound to get a proper base. On my other box with a diff card,
bass is just fine.
however, are there any h/w players for vorbis files? the faq only states
one manufacturer called iObjects but i see no portable players!
Basically, i want to player vorbis files

WineOn64Bit
Hello to all.
I have a VERY important correction to this article.
To compile wine on Debian Etch amd64 (kernel 2.6.17) you'll need some changes:
1. You don't need to make the X11R6 symlinks
2. The package "ia32-libs-dev" does not longer exist, you need libc6-dev-i386
3. make and make depend have to be run with LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/lib32"
I hope now it is all

ext3 0.9.6 vs ext3 0.9.9
Hello,
I have done extensive testing between 2.4.9 and 2.4.9-ac12 with ext3
0.9.6 and 0.9.9. I also tried using both kgcc and gcc-2.96.
I have a problem with logging into xdm or starting the gnome-session
totally locking up the machine while using ext3 0.9.9.
It seems to go away using ext3-0.9.6. During xdm/gnome-session the hard
disk is under heavy activity. I have attached my
kernel config.

Directsound deadlocks
Yesterday I've tried to get Diablo II working under Wine (Codeweavers
preview version), and it constantly crashed (or better, seemed to get
stuck in a deadlock) during startup. It was during a DirectSound
SetCooperativeLevel call, and the console kept saying 'timed out.
waiting 60 secs'.
Now, I'm using ALSA with OSS emulation (through the snd-pcm-oss kernel
module) and a

Wine and audio
I am new to Wine and have a broad question. I'm primarily interested in
audio. I know that audio can be one of the more difficult aspects of
development, at least partly due to real-time issues.
Now, for the question: Is there much going on with Wine and audio?
E.g., using a SBLive!, should getting a program that records to work be
overly difficult, is it being done all the time, or

Is there any way to control this? I get severe stuttering accompanied

This came out of the OggPCM discussion, but I think it needs to be addressed on
a wider scale.
Let's start here, 5 years ago..

DVD Audio & Vorbis
I recently bought a DVD Audio disc and I searched the web and wasn't
really able to find much about DVD Audio and Linux. I have a few
questions that I was hoping some people on this list might be able to
answer.
How can I extract the uncompressed DVD Audio (not the DTS Audio portion
of the disc, but the 96khz/24bit/5.1 pcm part)?

Are there many cards in this category? I'dve thought that all cards would
support 44100, it being the standard that it is. Your comments however
suggest experience of this problem.
Geoff.
