Guest can't access IPC$ - Samba 1.9.18p7, Linux 2.0.32
..., I've got
guest::...:/bin/false
in the /etc/passwd file... I don't know what else to do!
I'm going to try regressing my Samba RPM to earlier versions, then I'll
start checking non-RPM versions (God forbid - I might even have to look at
the source code :P)
Thanks in advance!

XP Point and Print not working Kyocera FS-3830N
...the printer.
Has anyone else successfully set up point and print for the Kyocera
FS-3830N on Samba Version 3.0.2a-Debian?
Are there any traps I have likely fallen into from following the
procedure at
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/printing.html#id2551679 ?
Hope someone can help :)

Kyocera 680 KX and driver uploads failing - anybody have success?
Hi All,
Just a quick one. Some turkey has bought a kyocera 680 and we have to set
it up for samba print sharing. We have about 35 other HP, Lexmark, and
other things working a treat on this server so I know it's all working.
When I try to upload the driver for the kyocera it uploads fine from my
windoze box and everything looks sweet, I apply and I get the extra tabs as
expected for

Port 445 & Port 139 banned
Because of security reasons, my school has blocked tcp port 445 and 139.
This make it impossible to for my window xp desktop to the remote samba service on Linux.
Although the samba sercie on Linux and change its port by a "-p" option. But windows always
look for 445 and 139 port.
I've tried a lot of ways to work it out including local port redirection but none of them works.

What exactly is top posting? I thought that was when someone responds

Impact of bnetd judgment on Samba?
Just wondering if the decisions in the bnetd case might affect Samba at
all?
http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/doc/2004/bnetd_30sep.pdf
From my reading, the judge is claiming that because the bnetd authors
didn't have permission to reverse engineer the Battle.Net protocol,
they breached copyright by reverse engineering it. Apparently in the
USA you can waive your legal rights through

What makes excel file opening so slow??
Hi list,
Despite the question I asked last time (I will re-install the FC3
with Samba 3.0.14a on another computer for replacement soon), I still
have one more question on Excel files. I found that Excel file opening
is extremely slow (especially on slow connections, i.e. VPN). The case
is really bad, it takes around 2 mins to open a excel file of around
400k. Actually we got both side having

Possible Bug: Can't copy from Mac OS X to Samba Version 3.0.2a-Debian?
...to create the file
in an odd manner?
I've solved the immediate problem, no thanks to the odd error messages.
I'd really like to know whether this weird behaviour can be altered,
and who is the most meaningful candidate for a bug report (me, Samba
Team or Apple Computer).

Point and Print
I recently posted regarding problems configuring Samba. These have all
been fixed but I am now struggling with the point and print facility. I
have attempted to upload the drivers from Windows XP workstations but
this seems to do nothing. So plan B was to manually copy the files to
the appropriate print$ share folder, so far so good. The problem I now
have is that the rpcclient utility simply

Reality Check -> Roaming Profiles
Disclaimer... I know Roaming Profiles are a modern day example of "the emperor?s new cloths". I also know that 2+2=4.
Let's think Linux/Unix here a second. Preference files are stored in the user's home dir. A user can log in (text or X) multiple times, they will always get the same home dir. Thus each login instance
will share those config files.
The same just happens to be

Testing roaming profiles
We have lost some profiles in our network due to Windows XP deciding
to use a local profile in one login (because it "couldn't find" the
server profile), then clobbering the server profile with the local
one on the next login. I'd like some way of testing this through a
non-interactive means, to emulate a dozen or so users logging in at
once and messing about with
