hotuser and hotkernel
...p more for libraries/modules. Yes - I seem to recall Bryan mentioning that dropping the instruction offset was going to be a new DTrace capability, so future versions of hotuser/hotkernel should run the new DTrace feature if available. I originally wrote these tools a long time ago, and was never satisified with Perl post processing (I''m sure many of you have thought of writing these tools as well). Nor did I find a suitable DTrace hack to make it work efficiently from pure DTrace. Since the output is rather useful, I''ll bite the bullet and go with Perl post-processing for now......

Offtopic Posts [was Re: [OT] Memory Models and Multi/Virtual-Cores -- WAS: 4.0 -> 4.1 update failing]
From: Greg Knaddison <greg.knaddison at gmail.com> > Look - brevity is the soul of wit. It also keeps other folks on lists > from calling you a troll. The problem is that then the same people then start complaining about my "oversimplification." In fact, that's part of the problem here. I really _tried_ to make a recommendation without breaking down into the

help with unless
Hi, I need a fresh set of eyes to look at this bit of controller code and tell me why I might be getting an error message: lookup = Profit.find(:all, :conditions => [ "user_id = ? AND product_id = ?", uid, pid]) unless lookup.empty? if (lookup.updated_on > 360.minutes.ago) return end end If lookup is empty, then I

A comparison of VP3, and two MPEG-4 variants
a couple points before I look at this too hard: "For VP3, since you can't do a constant quality encode" what? that should not be the case. Could be a QT-specific bug. Theora at any rate is certainly capable of doing constant-quality encode. This probably explains your standard deviation complaint -- VP3 is running a rate control alg, where the other codecs are just shooting for

Becoming a VOIP provider
This is a bit off topic, but I'm not sure where else to start. I've got a friend in Australia who works for a big ISP there. I guess they want to provide VOIP service to their customers. Can anyone give us an idea how someone can, I guess, purchase phone lines to sell as VOIP lines? I'm a bit lost here, but basically what is needed to become a VOIP provider? Would you buy a bunch

Uncoupled mode?
Hello, A question: Can we use uncoupled encoding in the 1.0? (current CVS) How? Because I see some uncoupled definitions (books\uncoupled\res_books_uncoupled.h), but I don't know how could I switch to it manually. Perhaps with an option in the vorbis_encode_ctl() function... Because I think so it's better if I don't use any kind of channel coupling (lossless neither) on high bitrates

ZFS - Implementation Successes and Failures
Hi Firstly apologies for the spam if you got this email via multiple aliases. I''m trying to document a number of common scenarios where ZFS is used as part of the solution such as email server, $homeserver, RDBMS and so forth but taken from real implementations where things worked and equally importantly threw up things that needed to be avoided (even if that was the whole of ZFS!).
