Problem Installing a local package in linux
...x (opensuse). I
want to install a package called "FEAR" from
"http://www.clemson.edu/economics/faculty/wilson/Software/FEAR/fear-download.html".
So, I downloaded the tar.gz file called
"FEAR-linux-64bit-2.6.16.60-0.21-smp.tar.gz" and it is in the
directory "/home/sambit/Downloads" right now. Then I invoked R from
terminal and keyed in
> install.packages("/home/sambit/Downloads/FEAR-linux-64bit-2.6.16.60-0.21-smp.tar.gz", repos=NULL)
Installing package(s) into
?/home/sambit/R/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu-library/2.13?

glmnet with binary predictors
...am asked to follow is to use a penalized
logistic procedure for variable selection. I have located the package
"glmnet" which gives the complete elasticnet regularization path for
logistic models. I want some help in setting up the process.
Can someone point out the basic steps?
Thanks

How to make 'step' faster?
...omplete a single
routine. Now, I have tried subsetting the data and perform the same
thing. But, 'step' is time consuming still.
Can there be a way out?
Also, the datasets I am working with contain very few non-zero
entries. Can a sparse function specification be used on step?
Thank you.
