Hi, I saw this setup on the web .. is this looks right to you ? The security set to user level, which use linux samba local login and password. Why this needs to set workgroup = SAMBAGRP ? [global] workgroup = SAMBAGRP security = user passdb backend = tdbsam Thanks

...box also runs Samba, ip 10.0.0.110. There are 2 other windows/linux boxes "behind" the VPN server. There are "guests" (Road Warriors) connecting into the network using OpenVPN (bridged (tap) mode), therefore they are on the same subnet, and configured for the same workgroup SAMBAGRP. Using one test "road warrior" I've been trying to get network browsing working. To a point it is. SMB gurus: please help - I am desperate.

Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?
Desperate to find out why connecting to a samba share(on an AIX server) from W2K is so slow, I tried connecting to the same share from a Linux box, using smbclient: smbclient \\\\aixserver\\sharedir$ -U lynn The results were amazing. The connection was so MUCH FASTER then connecting from a W2K (pro) workstation: \\aixserver\sharedir$ (in the Start|Run edit box) When I examined the samba log
