Samba36 error on install - Freebsd 9.2
Hello,
I have attempted to install samba36 on a base install of FreeBSD 9.2
I have installed this same package about 30 days ago and had no problems what so ever.
after the install, I add the line to FreeBSD /etc/rc.conf file - samba_enable="YES"
Reboot the server and an error appears - WARNING /var/db/samba is not a directory
I make the basic smb.conf changes like I have always done and I cannot browse shares
I scan the server IP for ports 137-139 and they are not open and neither are the services running.
What hap...

Samba 3.6 -> 4.2 upgrade on FreeBSD
...want to switch any of them to AD; I just want to keep
running as I do now, but with a supported version.
I've started from the simplest cases and so far I've been able to
upgrade some servers with the following steps:
_ stop Samba;
_ uninstall samba36;
_ install samba42;
_ replace "samba_enable" with "samba_server_enable" in /etc/rc.conf;
_ rename /usr/local/etc/smb.conf to /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf;
_ move /usr/local/etc/samba/smbpasswd to /var/db/samba4/private;
_ restart Samba.
This worked on servers running on smbpasswd backend; however I'm now
trying on a PDC...

Problems connecting to samba with a valid user
Hi,
I'm having some troubles with my samba configuration:
I'm running a FreeBSD 8 file server with samba version 3.2.15.
The port was compilated with WinBIND and UTMP support.
Samba is started by the /etc/rc.conf option: samba_enable="YES"
so that all smbd, nmbd and winbindd daemons are launched.
There is no fw on the box.
I used the smb.conf.default configuration file. I've just added log level =
3 and two shares definitions as following:
[Data01]
path = /mnt/Data01
public = yes...

samba 4.0.6 getent group
Hello all listies.
I've got samba4.0.6 running on FreeBSD 9.1.
Joined W2K12 domain as member server.
running getent group I noticed it takes a long time to resolve groups.
The result is correct, but it is inordinately long.
With 3.6.13 on FreeBSD 9.1 the return is nearly instantaneous.
smb4.conf looks like this.

workgroup = TMS3
security = ADS
realm = TMS3.COM

Samba 3.6 to 4.x: User Profile Service Failed the Login
..., and
I'm hoping for the same with samba 4. To upgrade, I took the following
steps, more or less in order:
1. Stop and remove samba36 from ports
2. Install samba4x (I've tried all the current samba 4.x releases in ports)
3. Copy /usr/local/etc/smb.conf to /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf
4. Rename samba_enable to samba_server_enable in rc.conf
5. Moved the smbpasswd file into where samba 4 looks for it,
/var/db/samba4/private/
6. Added acl allow execute always = true to my smb4.conf file, in case it
was needed.
7. Started samba4_server
Now here's where it gets a little weird. Almost everything w...

what OS do you use for Samba?
I'm trying to decide on a linux distro to use for our enterprise Samba
server. I like that there is a deb repo for Debian from samba.org, but
I'm more comfortable with CentOS (Redhat). I just want to be sure I
have a well supported Samba server and I need at least the 3.0.20
version so I can use the "inherit owner" property. I also want
automatic updates for bugfixes and

shutdown -r / shutdown -h / reboot all hang and don't cleanly dismount
Hello -STABLE@,
So I've seen this situation seemingly randomly on a number of both
physical 9.1 boxes as well as VMs for I would say 6-9 months at least.
I finally have a physical box here that reproduces it consistently
that I can reboot easily (ie; not a production/client server).
No matter what I do:
reboot
shutdown -p
shutdown -r
This specific server will stop at "All buffers
