Question re kerberos . . .
I've used the Samba AD DC HOWTO
<https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO> to install Samba 4
as an Active Directory/Domain Controller.
I've successfully configured the domain/realm and DNS (as far as I can
tell) and worked my way through Testing Your Samba Domain Controller

It is working fine here for XP and Win7 in production and my test

request: HOWTO for Samba4.latest AD PDC
I'm looking for an up-to-date howto on using Samba as an AD PDC. I've been
using Samba since the days of yore, but have recently acquired the
resources to take another stab at implementing an AD system using Samba.
Perhaps it has escaped notice that the page with the link text "Official
HOWTO" on samba.org points to

file share necessary?
On
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO#Setup_a_basic_File_Share
the instructions says
For the server to be useful you, will need to update it to have at
least one share
What do you need a file share for the server to be useful? Isn't a
domain controller 'useful' to authenticate machines and users even if it
doesn...

Upgrading from 4.0.0 to 4.0.3
...following in the 4.0.3 release notes about upgrades:
o For more details concerning the ACL problem with delegation of privileges
and deletion of accounts over LDAP interface (bugs #8909 and #9267)
regarding upgrades from older 4.0.x versions, please see
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO#Upgrading
which will be filled with details once we have worked out an upgrade
strategy.
I assume the ACL problems being referred to here are the reason I have "acl
search:false" in my smb.conf. Is it OK to perform the upgrade now, if that
is left in smb.conf?

samba wiki
Hai,
?
i was reading:
?
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO#Testing_DNS?
which stats :
Don't use BIND9_FLATFILE! It's not documented and supported!?
?
This is wrong imo.?
?
bind9_flatefile works fine, it just does not support multi master dns, and bind9_DLZ does.
so you must setup a master/slave setup for bind9 with flatfile
?
If you need to ru...

Eliminating Samba4 (as a name)
...ng.
Towards that, I have tried to stop using the term Samba4 in my mailing
list posts, and to ensure that folks who mention 'samba4' really do mean
the AD DC. I've started editing the Samba4/HOWTO to remove samba4
references, and I've renamed it to
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
There is still a lot to do, but our users can help this a lot by being
clear when referring to Samba, and not using these terms.
By doing to, we acknowledge that while the big new feature in the Samba
4.0 release is the AD DC, there is much more in Samba 4.0 besides, and
we can't do that if...

Samba 4.1.6 and 4.1.7 Kerberos problem on Debian Linux
...o far I have tried the setup on both a Debian 7.4 64 bit machine, and a Raspberry Pi (Debian variant). I've tried both Samba stable versions 4.1.6 and 4.1.7, and they both give me the same results.
I followed the instructions to install the Samba 4 AD setup at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
I also went through the OS requirements on the Samba4 wiki.
Everything works great except the Kerberos test on the Samba4 AD server. I get the following error (XXXXX is substituted here for my domain):
# kinit administrator at XXXXX.LOCAL<mailto:administrator at XXXXX.LOCAL>

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
Did, as su "apt-get install sernet-samba-ad" (after adding source to
repositories.)
(Have a test setup on CentOS 6.6 running but it is Samba 4.3.0 ** from
git. Would prefer Samba version not so new as 4.3.0 so, want to change
to Ubuntu.)

Following the instructions here:

In that page there is a link to using Bind as your DNS server, which links
to: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS_Backend_BIND
On that page, it instructs you to populate the DNS server with the command:

Can't login to Windows 2012R2 with domain user

This is my first Samba experience. Pre-condition:
1. Ubuntu 14.04 with updates installed
2. Samba 4.2.2 from Sernet repo
3. Pure Windows 2012 R2 server
Both Linux and Windows are fresh systems, no antivirus on Windows, no
firewall on Linux.
AD was provisioned by https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
manual.
sernet-samba-ad package installed, SAMBA_START_MODE="ad" in
/etc/default/sernet-samba
All test from manual was performed.
Symptoms: Windows was joined to domain, and after reboot login attempt was
performed via KVM. Login as AD admininstrator was successful. Then I try to

Samba4 AD DC Implementation Report - YAY! And Thanks for the tools!
In my initial configuration using the provisioning tool I did not set
"interfaces" or "bind interfaces only" in the smb.conf, so when I populated
the Bind9 DLZ file I ended up with several A records for my DC which were
IP address which cannot be accessed by other hosts on the network.

Samba4 internal DNS not responding to DNS requests
I am not able to get the Samba4 internal DNS server to respond to DNS
requests on the network.
I am running Samba4 4.1.0pre1-GIT-c1fb37d on my CentOS 6.3 system. I
followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
I configured Samba4 to use the internal DNS server. My Samba4 server is
192.168.0.13. Its full hostname is ubuntu-ad.allenlan.net. The realm is
ALLENLAN.NET.
The DNS testing section of the document passes:
$host -t SRV _ldap._tcp.allenlan.net.
_ldap._tcp.allenlan.net has SRV record 0 100 3...

What haven't I read? Everything I could find.
Some of it perhaps not the right thing, tho. I just ran across this:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
and the thing I mentioned previously didn't even mention "by the way:
If you're running BIND..."
*sigh*...
Thanks,
