one dude about rt_tables
Can I add routes to rt_tables by hand with the vi editor? If I add a route to that file, it will be there if I reboot the box? I am sure there are stupid questions but I can''t find the answer into the papers I have here. Luis Miguel Cruz Miranda. Configuring Samba with LDAP
Hello, I'm having problems configuring Samba to work using ADS. I've successfully compiled LDAP. When I try ./configure --with-pam --with-winbind --with-ads --with-krb5 --with-ldap It says "Active Directory support requires LDAP support" Are there any variables that need to be set? I've done --with-ldap=/usr/local/openldap (This the prefix for openldap). I'm

Opteron Mobo Suggestions
I've been planning to build a dual Opteron server for awhile. I'd like to get people's suggestions on a suitable motherboard. I've looked at the Tyan K8SE (S2892) and K8SRE (S2891) but would like to find more Linux-specific experiences with these boards. Some features I expect are at least 4 SATA (SATA-300?) ports, serial console support in the BIOS, USB 2.0 and IEEE-1394

ADS and Samba
Hi, I'm trying to get Solaris running Samba 3.0.9 to join an Active Directory Domain. Are there steps on configuring Kerberos, and using the "NET" utility if there is one for Solaris? Problem building samba on Solaris 9 --with-pam
...sing file on Solaris, but not found any report of a fix or work-around. With the number of people that report using Samba+Solaris+Active Directory there must be *something* I am missing. If it was in Mr. Terpstra's (Excellent!) documentation I missed it, I've also looked at http://www.samag.com/documents/s=9427/sam0414e/0414e.htm for additional guidance. Can someone fill me in? SiL311x SataRaid (sata_sil)
Hi, On my x86_64 system I have a SiL311x controller that can do RAID. If I configure my 2 identical disks in a RAID1 setup, I would expect to see only 1 block device on Linux. Still I see 2 block devices. Is this intentional, and if so, isn't that dangerous ? (i.e. writing to both disks at the same time) Anyone with an insight, please explain :) -- dag wieers, dag at wieers.com,

ADS on Solaris
Hi all, I see that the premade binaries for Samba on Solaris, even recent versions, have ADS support not compiled in. I see more ad domains than nt4 domains these days, so I am going to compile it myself with ads on. I want to ask the experienced if there are any gotchas with ads Samba on Solaris, or something about Solaris that makes ads Samba support difficult. Thanks Jason

Samba 3.0.25b as a domain member to a Samba PDC
I've been using Samba for about 7 years of so, but have hit a hurdle I just can't seem to figure out. I want to setup samba domain member servers to be members of a samba 3.0.25 (NT4 type) domain. No windbind, LDAP, or any other of the more complex authentication mechanism. This is the same functionality going way back to Samba 2.2, or so. In fact, I successfully did this on samba

Two Internet connections...
I do some occasional tech work for a cable TV/Internet service provider. They have now offered me free services, including cable Internet. I currently have a DSL service through the telephone company and, for several reasons including the fact that it is really unlimited service with no cap and it comes with newsgroup access (neither of which the cable service has), I'm not really prepared

Severe problem with Samba
Dear All, we are experiencing severe problems with Samba 2.2.0 (with quota support) running on a dual processor (400MHz) Sun E450 running Solaris 2.7. This is used as a central file server for student diskspace, accessed by approx 1200 PCs running NT 4. Up until recently we experienced some, what we assume to be, loading issues with connections during the middle of the day being slow.
