What were you planning on developing it with? I'm actually in the process
of encoding several conference CDs with 1.0.1 and will volunteer my
services/desktops to help test it.

...nal player isn't a bad idea
at all. There is a lot of complexity associated with it, though. Even if
you elect to just have a command-line player, there's still the audio
interface to deal with.
Not impossible, just careful coding.

While those are good too the main purpose of a stand-alone player would
be something that people could distribute with their files(which is why
it should be small). When I say cross platform I mean that it could
easily be ported and/or have as similar an interface as all the other

Speex 1.0.1 is out
Hi everyone,
I just released Speex version 1.0.1 with a major bugfix to the wideband
mode. It's highly recommended for people using wideband Speex to
upgrade. Also, since the old encoder and decoder had the bug, you may
notice that files encoded with 1.0 have a lower quality when decoded
with 1.0.1. For that reason, re-encoding might be a good idea. Note that
narrowband is not affected by

Official GUI Speex player
One thing that is keeping Speex from being adopted is a lack of GUI
players. I think that Speex could benefit from an offial cross-platform
GUI player. The goal of the player should be to be stable, to the
point(no fluff like visualisations, playlists, an equaliser, etc.), self
contained(no external .DLLs, etc), and to be small(500k or less) so that
people with modems don't have to wait

Rails (3) Engines and Plugins - How to mix application and vendor code?
I''m trying to create several large applications that share 60-80
percent of their functionality. I''d like to find some way to abstract
the common functionality into a gem, plugin, or engine which I can
then deploy as many times as needed for each application. The catch is
each app will definitely need that 20% extra functionality and it may
include changes or enhancements to

project "Sphinx" kicked off
<with Prof. Farnsworth voice> "Good News, everyone".
I've just kicked off project "Sphinx". Which is supposed to
sound like "Speex" merged with "INT". ;) Meaning I am working
on an integer encoder and decoder.
It looks like I will be pulling in a new "integer plumbing"
into the foundation of the codec, comparing the results with
