Understanding re-sahring a NFS filesystem in Samba
Greetings, I made some search on Google regarding this matter and found many diverse information, some dated back to 2004, and would like to update and clarify this issue. The question is: "what's the problem on re-sharing a NFS filesystem with Samba?". The only way I found to share a NFS mount point on Samba without apparent problem is to disable file locking on NFS mount by

Restrict some directories in browse list
I have the problem of needing to hide some directories from the browse list (Win98 clients) of some users (total of about 250). I am expecting to create behaviour similar to the home directory where only the home owner can see it. I would like to make some shares visible only to users in a certain Unix group. I have a share 'Automation' with a sub-directory structure and I use Unix

Vanishing options in hp printer drivers
We're using a couple of HP printers (2200, 4200, 3390) using the HP PCL 6 printer driver. Printer drivers are installed on the samba (3.0.24) box, connecting, driver installation and printing work OK. Problem: using the same driver version with the printer shared by a windows box gives some additional options like - brochure printing - putting serveral pages on one sheet Any Idea why

CD sharing via iso9660, mounted, and samba
I have installed a small Limux box in my local primary school, in order to sahre CD iso images. The system works fine, untill several w/s's concurrently access the same program , whereupon, we get spurious crashes. I have tried disableing op-locks, which seemed to help, but only slightly. Any suggestions gratefully received. Shane oplock_break: no break received from client within 30

Samba4 quit working after update
There is no winbindd--it was never installed. I don't recall exactly why I didn't install it, but I seem to recall something about Samba4 in an AD domain control role not needing it. I ended up using SSS instead. Sanatized smb.conf: # Global parameters [global] workgroup = DCS realm = DCS.LOCAL netbios name = SERVER server role = active directory domain

Samba4 quit working after update
It was my understanding that winbind wasn't necessary for Samba4. This server has been running for months without it. Sanatized smb.conf: # Global parameters [global] workgroup = DCS realm = DCS.LOCAL netbios name = SERVER server role = active directory domain controller dns forwarder = 8.8.8.8 idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes debug level =

Samba4 quit working after update
Ok, thank you--that worked, but it doesn't make sense. The server's been operational for months without winbind. Did something change in Samba that it won't operate now without it? I specifically remember reading that winbind wasn't necessary and, in fact, wasn't recommended with Samba 4 AD. On Tue, Apr 19, 2016 at 1:27 PM Rowland penny <rpenny at samba.org> wrote:

OCFS2 on Linux-x86-64 9iR2
Hello, we have two bugs filed for Linux-x86 and Linux-x86-64 both using OCFS2 for their 9.2.0.7 DB installation. Strange thing happening in these two ports is, after DB got created, we are seeing 'Corrupt data block' messages in alert logs and when the same blocks verified connecting to database appears to be clean. This inconsistency is stopping customer to go further use DB. This

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED messages
We used successfully samba 3.5.15-74.fc15 in our production (animation studio). It was installed on FC15 on ext4 volume. Now, we got new hardware and tried fresh software installation: it is CentOS7, with Samba 4.1.12 and XFS volumes. So, now we got strange problem. Some production software (Autodesk Maya2016) got errors trying to work with files. There is no such problem with Samba3. For

copy d:\bugs.ps \\ouessant\lexmark after having deleted all the samba log files and restarted the SMBd daemon from the SWAT Web interface. This leads to the INTERNAL ERROR, see samba.oulx Now, to locate the problem, I tried the same kind of command on the same file, bugs.ps, but using the SMBCLIENT application from the Linux server itself, without changing anything, nor restarting the SMBd
