Sage <--> R integration
Hi R-Devel,
The Sage project (http://www.sagemath.org) has been working extremely
hard for several
years to create a viable free open source alternative to Maple,
Matlab, Mathematica, and
Magma. Numerous users have requested statistical functionality.
Though Sage includes
scipy and numpy, which have some statistical fu...

Sage Line 50
Hi all,
I am attempting to get Sage to support their software if the files are
on Samba (Linux). They (like a lot of people I've heard) say "We don't
support Linux, Goodbye." even when the client is on Win98/NT. We have been
having trouble on a particular site, and they refuse to support Sage Line
50 if the fi...

Dear David,

In the Sage command line, you can type
sage: r?
to get some very basic info, and
sage: r.[tab]
to get various co...

Build failure on Solaris 10 (SPARC)
I'm trying to build R 2.10.1 on a Sun Blade 1000 running Solaris 10 (03/05
release). I've installed iconv 1.13.1 and used:
CPPFLAGS="-I /export/home/drkirkby/sage-4.3.3.alpha0/local/include"
(which is where iconv is)
LDFLAGS=
-R/export/home/drkirkby/sage-4.3.3.alpha0/local/lib
-L/export/home/drkirkby/sage-4.3.3.alpha0/local/lib
The build of R fails as below.
gcc -std=gnu99 -I../../src/extra/zlib -I../../src/extra/bzip2
-I../../src/extra/pcre -I.....

Ubuntu and Windows and Sage.........
Following on from my previous missive - now apparently resolved :D I now have another problem.
This time with Sage Line50 Ver11.
It appears to have installed OK and seems to link to the network share drive (G:), however it will not allow me (or anyone else) to log in.
If I use any good username, it comes back with "invalid password", even for users with no password. If I use any "invalid" u...

Samba & Sage Line 50 Accounting
Hi all,
Having a very specific problem here:
I have a working RedHat9 server running Samba 2.2.7 (the release that comes
with RH9), acting as a PDC/File Server to around 15 WinXP Pro client
workstations.
This all works nicely, apart from our accounting package, Sage Line 50,
which depends on its data being stored on a network share.
Previously, when the data was stored on a WinNT4 share, there was no
problem, several users could concurrently connect into the database and
work simultaneously.
Now, using samba, this isn't possible. Sage will only allow...

Sage instant accounts install
Loaded sage from disc and all the install pages seem to work up to a point where you click cancel for wine debug then it continues and says sage is installed.
Sage appears in the Applications/wine/programmes/sage instant accounts but fails to start?
How do I remove sage and start again or what should I do to...

Running Sage from a Samba server
Hi folks
I have a client with a Samba 2.2.0a server. I haven't upgraded it yet
because it has been working so smoothly that I don't want to fix what
isn't broken.
The problem we are having at the moment is with only one application and
that is Sage Accounting. The client is complaining that when more than one
person tries to update or run searches, things seem to "lock up". We
suspect that when one user accesses a file, the file is locked. Thus, the
next person has to wait before his request can be served. However, the
first request...

Slowdown and errors
Hi all,
I am having some strange problems on a customer site :
I am pretty sure I disabled oplocks entirely - I don't like the idea of
them, and would rather have stable data.
The customer (5-10 users) runs Sage Line 50, and until recently was
getting numerous errors within sage. We have temporarily replaced their
switch and this has reduced the fatality rate and a few corruptions. They
still however get a message along the lines of "waiting for file
index.dta". I have looked into the logs...

How to get R to compile with PNG support
Dear R devel list,
Good morning; I'm with the Sage (http://www.sagemath.org) project.
(Some of you might have seen my talk on this at last summer's useR
conference).
We have some rudimentary support for using R graphics in various
cases, which has proved useful to many of our users who want to go
back and forth between R and other capabilities...

Sage Accounts Performance Issues (Solved)
...rver (Fujitsu RX300s6) running Samba 3.0. Just a
workgroup, no domain. Most of the configuration was migrated forward to
the new server, including smb.conf.
Performance on file copies to and from the shares (via mapped drive
letters) was fine, but operations such as searches and reports in the
Sage Line 50 version 2011 accounts package were taking 3 to 4 times
longer than on the old system. (This was putting a VAT quarter
calculation up to about 1.25 hours, since this is a large dataset for
Sage Line 50.)
I tried a number of things, including turning oplocks on and off on the
sage data s...

samba 3 performance with windows 7 workstations
...hould consider
replacing it with a Centos 6 machine and Samba 4, but they decided as it
was doing its job without any issues to keep it as is. I also suggested
updating to samba3x but they decided not to do this.
I recently installed a centos 6/samba4 server for another customer but they
do not use Sage so I cannot compare performance. That customer has a mix of
XP, win7, and win8 but nobody is complaining of performance differences.
At home I also have Centos 5.10 with samba3x (Samba version
3.6.6-0.139.el5_10)
I use a win7 PC as a domain member and have not noticed any issues when
moving up from...
