Software RAID Level 1, smartd and changing dev numbers
We have about 50 CentOS servers with software RAID level 1 (mirroring). Each week, we swap out one of the drives (the one in the second of four hot-swap bays, only the first two of which contain drives) on each server and take them offsite for safekeeping. The problem is, the kernel seemingly randomly switches between /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc for these devices. This makes the process slower by requiring more manual input where a script(s) could otherwise suffice. It also confuses smartd, which AFAIK, needs the correct device names to report accurate...

how to migrate from one server to another?
Hi I have purchased and installed a new PC and would like to transfer my mail (in Maildir format) to it. Are there any precautions I must take before copying the mail over? I will disable mail delivery temporarily so no new mail gets written to disk but I don't know if dovecot has to be stopped before copying/editing mail for backup or migrating purposes. Upgrade from 3.0.2 --> 3.0.7
I'm contemplating the upgrade for my production network from (Red Hat Enterprises') version 3.0.2 to 3.0.7 (which is the latest from Red Hat). So I start to peruse the changelog and I see this: "Syntax errors in the OpenLDAP schema file (samba.schema)." as one of 4 bullet items at the top of the Samba 3.0.7 changelog. This has me a bit concerned. My production environment is

C6 Module Keys
Hello, As part of testing an alternative module I saved the original module and copied the test one in. The test was done and I put the original module back. Now the original module is not loading at startup and doing it manually I get the error WARNING: Error inserting {Module name & path } Required key not available. And in /var/log/messages shortly after boot I can see kernel:
