Definitely recommend upgrades on Tyan S2895 ...
It seems that unstable PowerNow support on the Tyan S2895 is not limited to Linux according to this review: http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-296-1.htm Their solution was to upgrade the BIOS as well. -- Bryan J. Has anyone had success getting on-board sound to work on a Tyan S2895?
My setup is as follows: Motherboard: Tyan S2895 CPU: Two Opteron 275s Memory: 4 GB Disk: Three 250 GB SATA drives attached to a 3Ware 9500S-4LP RAID card Video: Nvidia GeForce 7800 The only hardware that I have added to the motherboard is the 3Ware card and the Nvidia card. The disks are configured as a RAID 5 array, and the machine boots from...

CentOS 4.4 not seeing all RAM
Hi Everyone, My server is only seeing 4.8 GB out of 6 GB available. I don't know why. I have a CentOS 4.4 x86_64 server running on a Tyan s2895 with 6 GB of RAM (two 1 GB sticks and 2 2 GB sticks). I upgraded the RAM, powered up the server, and when CentOS was finished booting, checked the available RAM with free. This is what it's reporting: total used free shared buffers cached Mem:...

Tyan K8WE BIOS v1.03 and -STABLE
I tried updating the BIOS on my K8WE (S2895) yesterday to 1.03, but after the update, FreeBSD (RELENG_6 dated March 26) would randomly freeze after booting. As I was updating from v1.01, I suspect it may be the updates to the nVidia SATA firmware that caused the issue, as things generally froze shortly after the background fsck processed ki...

sata_nv, CentOS 4 update 2 and hang during post-install
Good day. Thanks in advance for any help. I have a Tyan S2895 (Thunder K8WE) with 2 275 Opterons and the latest (1.02) bios. It appears to have an nVidia nForce SATA chipset which connects to a 250gb WD Caviar SATA drive. Using the CentOS 4 update 2 x86_64 DVD, the install is peachy until half-way through the "performing post install configuration&quot...

3ware 9550SX and CentOS
I'm getting a couple of systems that are arriving with the new 3ware 9550sx controller. Does anyone know when this will be natively supported by CentOS? Has anyone built an RPM of the driver/module for this new controller?

Onboard RAID Tyan Transport GT24 (Thunder K8SRE s2891)
I've been checking out this and like the looks of it. http://www.tyan.com/products/html/gt24b2891.html I was told the onboard SATA RAID controller can only be used by windows. However, others have told me that there is no problem using it with linux. Anyone used the Tyan Transport GT24 (TYAN Thunder K8SRE s2891 motherboard)? Good choice for a CentOS server? Thanks, Josh

Tyan K8SE (S2892) / nForce Pro Experiences (Clarification)
From: "Bryan J. Smith <b.j.smith at ieee.org>" <thebs413 at earthlink.net> > I wrote a pre-sale evaluation back in January 2005 here: > http://lists.leap-cf.org/pipermail/leaplist/2005-January/000532.html > ... Tyan S2895 -- nForce Pro 2200+2050 Just know that the pre-sale evaluation was of the nForce4, and didn't take the nForce Pro 2200 and 2200+2050 designs into consideration. E.g., the nForce Pro 2200 has 1.0GBps (2) PCI-X 1.0 channels. Any off-chipset NIC is typically connected to those, so there is not...

Opteron Mobo Suggestions
I've been planning to build a dual Opteron server for awhile. I'd like to get people's suggestions on a suitable motherboard. I've looked at the Tyan K8SE (S2892) and K8SRE (S2891) but would like to find more Linux-specific experiences with these boards. Some features I expect are at least 4 SATA (SATA-300?) ports, serial console support in the BIOS, USB 2.0 and IEEE-1394

Tyan S2891 and CentOS
I am trying to install CentOS to a server that has a Tyan S2891 motherboard, 2 Opteron 875 Dual Cores and 2GB of RAM. I have been able trying to install over a network but the tg3 driver will not load. I then installed from a DVD and on rebooting after the installation I cannot get the network drivers to load and the RAID controller in the PCI slot is not available. It seems that when I do an

Tyan K8SE (S2892) / nForce Pro Experiences
Has anyone installed Linux (CentOS or other) on a Tyan K8SE (S2892) motherboard? I'd really like to hear your experiences -- with this board or Nvidia's nForce Pro chipset in general. I'm looking to build a new server using this board but would like to find some other experiences first. I've googled myself blue but haven't found any reviews or postings regarding this

The machine has 2 Opteron 250DP (2.4GHz) with 4 GB of RAM. It is using a Tyan Thunder K8WE (S2895A2NRF) motherboard with an nVidia nForce chipset -- http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8we.html.
