1.2.3pre2 works great on Solaris 2.7 except man
Right out of the box (after I made Damien's LDFLAGS fix in configure) using
gcc-2.95.2. The only problem I have now is the man pages. I still can't
read them using Solaris nroff, and when I tried to build with
--with-catman=cat, I got the following during a make install:
/rtr/bin/install -c -m 644 ssh.[01].out /usr/local/man/cat1/ssh.1
Try `/rtr/bin/install --help' for more information.

extracting nested variances from lme4 model
I have a model:
mod1<-lmer( x ~ (1|rtr)+ trth/(1|cs) , data=dtf) #
Here, cs and rtr are crossed random effects.
cs 1-5 are of type TRUE, cs 6-10 are of type FALSE,
so cs is nested in trth, which is fixed.
So for cs I should get a fit for 1-5 and 6-10.
This appears to be the case from the random effects:
> mean( ranef(mod1)$cs[[1]...

rsync incremental backup problem with --backup-dir switch
...a strange side-effect.
Everything goes well, but on the server side where the backup is stored I
can't seem to break out of the $BSERVER::$USER/current directory with e.g.
the --backup-dir=/Monday switch. Which results in the directories being
endlessly moved into eachother, like this:
/backup/rtr-heijen/current/Tuesday/Monday/Sunday/Saturday/Friday
Instead, the moved files should be located in /backup/rtr-heijen/Monday
and not /backup/rtr-heijen/current/Monday
I have read all documentation and examples I could find in order to find a
solution, but I could not find any. Either I am missing...

seemingly simple read.table question
I have a file that I thought would be fairly simple to read in using read.table but I am having problems ( as usual ).
each line of the file is of the form ( just 20 lines or so )
financials XXX, YYY, ZZZ
automobiles RTR, ABC, TGH
so the first field in the line is the industry and the other fields
( seperated by commas ) in the line are stock identifiers of stocks
in that industry. note that there is no comma between the industry
and the first stock identifier in the group which i guess might
complicate things ?...

FrontPage Extensions
Has anyone had success getting FrontPage extensions to work with
Centos-4.
I've been trying to set up a virtual hosting server with front page
support.
I found this page to help getting around the selinux problems:
http://www.rtr.com/fp2002disc/_disc2/00000be5.htm
but each problem I overcome I keep hitting another...
Just wondering if anyone's had success with this on Centos-4 or if
you've found any good tips to share.
Thanks for your help,
Bob Pierce.

Advice on fax support
...h the solution, we need to come up with a solution
to what to do with the current POTS line. The company is very keen to retain
the line (or at least the number) as it has been in mail signatures, etc, for
the past year or more, and people know it.
The setup I've got is:
(Office A) --- (VPN Rtr) --- ADSL --- (VPN Rtr) --- Asterisk --> IAX to PSTN
|
|
(Office B) --- (VPN Rtr) --- 10M line --+
The POTS line is in Office A. What I was thinking was to put something like
a Sipura SPA-3000 on the POTS line,...
