Connecting Samba 3.0 to a Win 2003 domain
...swd and /etc/group files. Users access the Unix servers via ssh, and NFS as well as (currently) samba 2. Passwords are authenticated against ADS/Kerberos. I'm happy to write some sort of script that pulls data out of the ADS (via LDAP) and regenerate some UID/GID/SID map somewhere. But after RTFMing it looks like I should: 1) Set up an OpenLDAP server just to handle the sambaSamAccount UID<-->SID mapping. This is OK but a bit strange as (it seems to me) this info already in the ADS LDAP server. 2) If I go with the OpenLDAP server, do I also use it to map the GID<-->SID as well?...

Samba PDC/LDAP Questions
...on 4: What about the smb.conf directives involved? [global] logon path logon home [profiles] path In the example there is no "profiles" share found on the non-PDC file-server. /me shrugs I'm a little bewildered with all of this and would LOVE some help. I'm fairly good at RTFMing do if I have overlooked an important piece of documentation, by all means point it out to me and I will inhale it. I've tried looking at the ldap schema but didn't pull too much from it. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated... Regards, Wendell

Remote-logging nginx? (or other non-syslog-enabled stuff)
...ing would be useful. If there's a general soution (something as naive as tailing local logs and firing these off on a regular basis). I've heard rumors of a Perl script used for apache logs. Also that rsyslog supports logging from local files to a remote syslog server, possibly. I'm RTFMing on that. Back with my UID problems
...y drop back to samba 3.x or 2.x where I know how to make sure I get the UID I want, but the goal is in the end to shutdown NIS and use just the LDAP and Kerberos provided by samba. I know I can do find and chown stuff, but really that is not the best solution. So.........help, and yes I have been RTFMing with no luck. I would also love to know how to re-use a previously autoasigned UID in samba. There are use cases for removing a user and creating a new user with a previously assigned UID. Thanks. -Brett -- wynkoop at wynn.com http://prd4.wynn.com/wynkoop/pgp-keys.txt 917-642-...

Libvirt supported qemu-ga commands
Where can I find the full list of libvirt supported qemu-ga commands? The docs [0] imply virDomainQemuAgentCommand bypasses libvirt and is not recommended. I am looking to pass suspend/resume events from the host to the guest and then have the guest act on this internally. Your help is appreciated. [0] https://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Qemu_guest_agent

Font too large for widget with wine 20010824
...always worked fine started misbehaving. The problem is that the text is now too big for the widget inside which it appears. Unfortunately, the widget has no scrollbars and the app doesn't allow me to change font size. Is there a way I can change font metrics? Sorry if this is a simple case of RTFMing... Thanks, -- Adriano

Solaris 10 5/08 Customer migrated to a new emc array with a snap shot and did a send and receive. He is now trying to set quotas on the zfs file system and getting the following error. pxelinux efi64 boot woes on hyper-v gen 2
Ady: You seem to be taking (copy$paste) parts and pieces from different resources. Luke: Nope. The configuration works fine with PXE 2.01 clients, it's the UEFI PXE 3.2 that is having issues with the dhcp requests. The gospel is the Intel PXE 3 spec I'm RTFMing now. No copy and paste, I just started with someone elses configuration file that claims to support UEFI - or at least hopes to in the future. Ady:You also seem to be assuming that all those resources are somewhat officially confirmed (proved) to be working, both individually and mixed together. A...

whoops, corrupted my filesystem
Hi all- I corrupted my filesystem by not doing a RTFM first... I got an automated email that the process monitoring the SMART data from my hard drive detected a bad sector. Not thinking (or RTFMing), I did a fsck on my partition- which is the main partition. Now it appears that I've ruined the superblock. I am running Fedora Core 6. I am booting off the Fedora Core 6 Rescue CD in order to try to fix things (my system isn't bootable.) Doing a e2fsck /dev/hda2 tells me that the s...

SQLite primary key schema
So after successfully getting the test SQLite db to run from memory, I tried running some tests but found that somewhere in the schema translation from Postgres (my devel database) and SQLite Rails fails to properly set the ''id'' column, which breaks all kinds of things. Take as an example my ''users'' table. In Postgres the schema is (generated with pgAdmin III):

smbclient -M --> ERRmsgoff?
Hi, I've been a Samba user/admin for about a decade with relative success, but now I'm stumped. I'm hoping someone might be a solution to this, or at least a solid answer. I'm looking to send out winpopup messages to our XP clients when one of our Samba fileshare servers needs to be rebooted. So I'm trying to sending the messages from a Linux/Samba server, which is not a

Bitmap memory leaks (Bug 251)?
I see that this problem was noted a while ago (http://rubyforge.org/ tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=251&group_id=35&atid=218) but it seems not to have received much attention. Any chance that it will be looked at anytime soon? So far, I prefer wxRuby to Ruby/Tk because of that closer coupling with the native window manager. However, the memory leak is just murdering me.

pxelinux efi64 boot woes on hyper-v gen 2
Gene, I found a document from IBM that explains why it didn't like Vendor-Class-Identifier option I was using "PXEClient" was causing EFI boot rooms to dummy spit, that's very useful, that combined with RTFMing the PXE specs 3.0-3.2 might solve my problem if I keep at it. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21247032 Even the PXELinux docs suggest encapsulating vendor necessary options for some ROMS. Maybe I'll put all those same options into my DHCP configuration below without having th...
