Can a linux box running rsynch as either a client or server

Need help to rsynch the directory structure only excluding the files from remote to local.
Hi Tim,
I tried using the rsync like how you specified in your example and it
worked fine. But when I tried it between my UNIX box and a remote
server the command would just not complete and give any output
whatsoever.
This is how I did it:
rsync -av --include '*/' --exclude '*' tashaikh@remotebox:/dw/etl/home/
prod/log/ /export/home/tashaikh/auto/log
In the above I need to copy

Folder not visible - after migration ( Squirrel Mail )
Hello,
We did migration from old version postfix to new version postfix (2.3).
>From old dovcot 0.99 to dovcot 1.0 rc2 and we rsynched /Home of old box to new /Home 1:1
After migration we are not able to see customise the folders in squirrel mail interface.
What could be the reason.
Regards,
Sumit

2 errors when running rsync
I'm kinda new to rsync, and decided to mirror openssl.org. When running
the command below, as suggested by openssl.org, I get the following..
rsync -rztpv --delete rsync://ftp.openssl.org/openssl-ftp/
/home/ftp/pub/openssl/
I get the output:

Rsync behaviour on harddisc crash
I was just pondering:
Lets look at Server A with one extra harddisc hdb, where hdb1 is mounted at /mnt/folder.
/mnt/folder is the folder which should be mirrored on Server B.
So Server B rsyncs
rsynch -a -delete server::folder /folder
from Server A and gets all the new files and deletes all the files, which doesn't exist on Server A's /mnt/folder anymore.
What would happen,

Problem with rsync on WinXP going to HP-UX or Linux
Hi,
I can't get rsync from a PC to an HP-UX or Linux box to work,
and am hoping for a pointer or two.
I checked the FAQ and googled ... with no luck, so I hope this isn't
a patently obvious newbie problem :)
I just got interested in trying to use rsync to backup my WinXP PC to
a Linux or HP-UX computer. I got the cygwin package from Robert

Problem with rsync recent file logic ?
Hello,
I have 2 servers I'm synchronizing using rsync, I have a situation where I :
1. rsync from rnd-dev2 to rnd-dev1
2. change the rsynched file on rnd-dev1
3. rsync from rnd-dev2 to rnd-dev1 again
4. File gets overridden on rnd-dev1 over though it has newer change
time then file on rnd-dev2.
here is the bug(?) reproduction:
[root@rnd-dev1 test_rsync]# rsync --version
rsync version 2.6.3 protocol version 28

Backup FAQ: PLEEZE include in FAQ?
I know there are a million ways to skin a cat, but we must have
1,000,001 discussed in the archives already. I guess folks don't know
about "search".
So, I'm hoping that the pending FAQ might have mention of one or more of
the *excellent* threads resident in the archives regarding backup?
And just so this post is not a total waste, I'll mention that cpio can

rsync hangs in read_int (generator.c line 498)
Hello
I'm having a heck of a time rsync'ing (is that the proper conjugation?
:)) between two Cygwin machines. I have three directory trees that are
"exposed" via rsynch. Two of the three have a very shallow structure,
and they work fine. The third, however, has a fairly deep structure and
many more files than the other two, and rsync'ing this directory causes
a hang on

Expressions in --exclude-from file
Greetings --
I just downloaded and compiled rsync 2.6.4, which has the much-coveted
--remove-sent-files option!
Thank you for adding this feature. I use
rsync -rutvn --exclude-from=nosync --remove-sent-files /ssa/TV/2005/
/tv1/2005/
to move files selectively to a storage computer, but I want to avoid
including files that are currently
being captured. When I include today and a great

Kickstart with all the latest updates?
Currently, I kickstart my machines over http to install CentOS 4.4
and then in a script called from %post do a "yum -y update" to
install all the latest updates. Is there a way to set up the
kickstart server so that I can do this all in one step? In other
words, is there a "supported" way to roll in all the updates into the
kickstart server? In case it matters, I

local yum repository
bit off topic, but....
I've set up my first Centos gateway server and now
setting up another server on internal network.
I thought it would be nice to use the gateway servers
"/var/cache/yum" as a local repository for any internal servers
since it would be up to date with the lastest packages and save
bandwidth.
So... I created a sym link to create a repository through

Info on UK ISDN30e?
Hi :)
My employer is looking to move a call centre to a new office, and has
been increasingly frustrated with their legacy PBX (call-logging
licensing and hardware upgrade costs). So I've stepped forth as the
Open Source Pedant and suggested Asterisk so we can do all our own
CallerID / call logging / analyses, and make use of IP Phones /
teleworking, etc.
The problem begins in that I only

[OT] Godaddy hell...
Can I get some recommendations:
We are looking for a hosting provider (other than godaddy) with
1: SLA
2: SSH access
3: subversion/rsync or the ability to install binaries / compile source.
Would like them to include http/https and email.
Any suggestions?

Possible memory leak problem...
I''m trying to figure out a possible memory leak problem I have in my
application.
I''ve tested both with mongrel and webrick and the problem remains. So
I think it''s not a mongrel problem, but I''m posting here to see if
anybody can help me.
The RAILS application is quite simple, no special plugins ( no
RMagick that has the memory problem ),
