bridging tinc router mode network and switch mode network
I am running tinc v. 1.1pre (truly as I read somewhere, ?one of the internet?s best kept secrets?) on some consumer home routers flashed with tomato firmware. I have a whole network of these, but for the purposes of this question I will focus on just three Router A (subnet 192.168.5.0/24) is connected via a standard tinc ?router? mode network with Router B (subnet 192.168.15.0/24). Router B, in addition to its connection w...

Samba binding to two IPs, even when specified not to
Hello. I'm running RH 7.1, with Samba 2.2.2. VERY often I get a SIGHUP to smbd and it'll dump the workgroups. I also get a "Discarding datagram from IP 216.202.200.103. Source name ROUTER<00> is one of our names" all the time also. This line FILLS my logs. I don't understand this one, because I have the interfaces line specified in smb.conf to use only the local

Complex samba setup, requesting advise
I have a rather unusual setup within which I'd like to run samba. At this point I have: a) 3 networks (all private IP's) b) net1, net2 are interconnected by a router. net1 has a host that also acts as a WINS server and is local master, domain master, preferred master for it's group. (linux slack7.0, samba 2.0.5) router between net1, net2 has an IP in each network and samba

Best setup for redundant routers.
I am setting up 2 Vyatta routers that will serve as redundant failover core routers out to the backbone of our ISP. They will be serving for routing between other branches and the ISP and bandwidth management. I am trying to differentiate between the plethora of information about having redundant, automatic failover routers and p...

OT: Linksys router misbehaviour
...running under dd-wrt. My question is - which makes it a tiny bit CentOS-related - does anyone with such a router know of a way to wake the router up in such a case through the computer? I wouldn't have dared to ask this question here or anywhere until recently, as I assumed my ancient Linksys routers were obsolete. But I've been reading posts recently saying that there hasn't really been a Linux router to replace the WRT54GL, and in particular Linksys's recent 11n replacement is not as good as the old model in many ways. Anyway, if anyone has an answer to my query I should be very...

Asterisk crashes my router!?
Hi, Does anybody else have problems like this. I'm in the UK with a 1mb ADSL service from Eclipse. I have a Draytek Vigour 2600 ADSL router. My * box is configured with a public IP address which is presented on one of the switch ports on the rear of the router. When there is some SIP activity, incoming mainly, towards my * box, the router will lockup after a short period?! I've tried

Asterisk Causing Cisco 7200 Router to Crash?
...d it, it is always when Asterisk starts up. Has anyone else seen this problem? It is very odd because this is a very good router and we had the Asterisk server on an exact same router but different network before and it did not cause a crash. We have gone through two different Cisco 7200 series routers and both exhibited the same problems. Any clues? timeout problem
...es. So when I was doing the above from 192.168.5.27 > going through the router through Comcast is when I had the problem. > --- Try this: For the NIC on your Comcast router set its ip to one that the dhcp in the router gives out + DFG + 2 DNS entries. In order to have it static. I see lots of routers with your problem. John

CentOS based router dropping connections
Hello, I am trying to figure out a problem I'm having using CentOS on a machine as a router. The short story is: any traffic routed through the router seems to get disconnected at random occasionally. The hardware setup is: I have two switches, the router sits between them, the webserver on the LAN switch. The machine I'm using for the router is a Dell 860 1U rackmount with two NICs,

an other usage example
...e here a larger vpn (about 30 subnets) at time with OpenVPN. OpenVPN only supports PointToPoint connections so the setup is complex. Many transport Networks, many routes. The examples from your Webpage are nice, but i think a nicer way to use the strengh of tinc is: We define a Subnet where all routers are, for example: 172.120.121.0/24 With tinc its now easy to configure this on every router, so all routers are fully connected. Router A gets, 172.120.121.1 Router B gets, 172.120.121.2 Router C gets, 172.120.121.3 . . so we only have to add to every router these Adresse in its Subnet List, R...

[Bridge] Why TTL is changing when sending a ping?
The situation is this: INTERNET -- ROUTER -- ETHERNET+WIFI -- PC's The conection between INTERNET and ROUTER is done with 2 LINKs with static IP's. The conection between ROUTER and PC's is done via ETHERNET lan with many bridges and ACCESSPOINTS. The PC's are in a IP subnet, the BRIDGES in another IP subnet, the AP's in another IP subnet. The ROUTER has 1 bridge interface
