PXE/RIP-PXE
Hello syslinux Mailinglist ;)
I'm new to this mailing list, the RIP Readme brought me here.
I'm quite new to syslinux/pxelinux and im trying to set up some kind of
minimal linux which is bootable via lan.
I found the http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/
project, and what I read in the readme it will fit my needs.
Basic infos:
Host System running gentoo, dhcp-3.0.1-r1, tftp-hpa-0.40-r1
Client: 3com nic, which supports PXE
I downloaded the

Can I use pxelinux to boot a cdrom image or isolinux from pxe?
...SYSLINUX for a couple of years now. I use PXELINUX
for a PXE server. I've only been able to boot linux kernel/initrd images and
dos bootdisks, however now I'm wanting to create a boot image for the 'Rescue
Is Possible' (RIP) linux recovery disk -
http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/
Previous versions came with a kernel and initrd that could be used with PXE but
the latest version instead comes as an ISO image which uses syslinux which
raises a couple of questions:
1) Is there some way I can use pxelinux/memdisk to boot a generic bootable ISO
image?
2) Is ther...

Failure to boot isohybrid image from USB stick
Hi,
i did not succeed to get my test computer (Asus A7V8X-X
of 2004) to boot from an isohybrid image.
I tried
http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/RIPLinux-7.0-non-X.iso
which is obviously isohybrid enabled.
The system has a "Promise Ultra 133 TX2" IDE controller
which supercedes the mainboard BIOS.
To make the system react on the USB stick i set boot
option "USB ZIP" on both BIOSes. (Unclear whether the

isolinux 2.08: screen garbage when loading kernel?
I'm using the RIP Linux mini rescue distribution.
http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/
I have modified v. 7.0 for usage on our 32 node Tyan Tiger MPX Linux
cluster with a serial console. Because of a bug with Grub on this
motherboard when running headless and using a serial console I use the
optional Isolinux version 2.08 also included with RIP Linux to boot from
a CDR...

[PATCH] HDT: Fix cursor on exit from Menu Mode
From: Gene Cumm <gene.cumm at gmail.com>
CMenu: Fix cursor on exit from showmenus()
Signed-off-by: Gene Cumm <gene.cumm at gmail.com>
This fixes the issue in hdt.c32 that Kent Robotti noticed where
exiting directly from Menu Mode caused the cursor to not be displayed.
This same issue also affects com32/cmenu/simple.c32 and probably
others using showmenus().

Adding Things to Rescue Mode
I'd like to add a few things to rescue mode. I'm tired of having to use
a floppy with hardware drivers when ever I need to go into rescue mode and
there are a few other utilities that I'd like to add as well. How would I go
about doing this? Any pointers to FAQ's or "How to's"? I've done some
searching, but haven't found anything recent enough to be

Booting using single image file
Howdy,
I know that syslinux doesn't currently support this, but does anyone
here know how I might go about getting some sort of boot process
together that would have a single firmware image as opposed to seperate
files for initrd, kernel, and root fs?
Thanks.

booting on a dos software
Hi!
I've got a USB key with several tools (small linux, memtest86+)
booting via syslinux.
But now I have to add powermax.exe (a MSDOS tool to test Maxtor
disks) on this key.
As I've always been on Unix/Linux system, I don't know what
to do to run powermax.exe from syslinux.
I've made a boot floppy disk and tried to copy everything
on my usb key and put the command.com in kernel

Survey: SYSLINUX: 2.13 works, 3.0x don't
Okay, this applies particularly to SYSLINUX, not ISO/PXE/EXTLINUX.
If you have a system on which 2.13 boots and 3.0x don't, I would like to
get as much information as possible about it. In particular, I would
like to know:
- What device are you booting from (floppy, USB, IDE harddrive...)
- Motherboard manufacturer/model
- CPU manufacturer/model (a dump of /proc/cpuinfo would
