OT: Need some riser card advice...
...ns here: - Go with a 3U case instead. Now I have a 16-drive case with only a 12-way card. :-) - Return the 3Ware and order two of the 8-way cards which are half-height. This means I love some of my space now however as I have to have an extra spare drive per card. - Get a PCI-E riser. The riser option I like, except I also have the BBU unit for my RAID card meaning I need to ensure that I have enough clearance and support for it when the card is mounted horizontally. You can mount the battery elsewhere, but not the logic module... Most of the PCI-E 8x risers I've seen ou...

OT: hardware question
Hi, folks, I'm installing a RAID controller card for a large external RAID box in a Dell server. I've got two riser slots available. Here's the question: the controller card has some large chips on one side, and if I put it in riser 1, those chips face downwards in the box, blocking ease of cooling, while if I put it in riser 2, the chips will face up... but be right over a large chip on the m/b that's g...

Re: Hardware RAID Controller -- Risers and 66+MHz ...
From: Lee W <centos-list at unassemble.co.uk> > Shouldn't be a problem as it's probably going in a 1U Rack case > with a Riser/extender card. Be sure to hit the 3Ware site to read about _incompatible_ risers! At 66+MHz PCI/PCI-X signaling, many cards/risers have issues. Many are only designed for 33MHz. -- Bryan J. TDM400p susceptible to EMI?
I have a TDM400p with 3 fxs and 1 fxo daughter cards. It's in a mini-itx case with a 'right-angle' PCI riser card so the TDM400p is 'sandwiched' between the Atom D525 CPU and the 2.5" hard drive. I'm getting a bunch of clicks and pops on all ports. Has anybody had a similar experience? Did you find a solution? -- Thanks in advance, ----------------------------------------------------...

PCI unable to handle 64bit address space for
Hello all this is my first post to this list so i would like to than you all in advance for your time and consideration. I am in the process of building a new server and have purchased some used hardware. There seems to be some hardware issuses and i am hoping nothing was damaged during shipping. However i am in contact with intel and we are tring to figure out the exact problem via email. So

A400P + Intel D201GLY2(A) motherboard?
...like to build myself an Asterisk server for SOHO use. Intel's D201GLY2 motherboard (http://tinyurl.com/ddarzp) looks like a very good deal, but I'm concerned about two things: 1. Will an A400P (from OpenVox, but supposed to be Digium-compatible http://tinyurl.com/ck6nfu) fit with a PCI riser, or will the CPU heatsink/fan be in the way? I downloaded the PDF from OpenVox's site, but didn't find the size of each PCI card 2. Performance, especially if there's the need for software echo cancelling If someone here has used this motherboard to build an Asterisk server, could...

flashing a BIOS on an HP server
...answer.... As I've mentioned in other posts, we have an HP dl580 g5 that started throwing ECC errors. But wait, it's worse: memory is mirrored.... And the thing is fully populated with 32 DIMMs. I took my best guess, pulled the matching set of DIMMs, and took two off of one of the four riser boards to replace them. I find that the m/b *must* be fully populated before adding riser boards... *and* the riser boards are mirrored. So I had to pull two riser boards, the one I'd taken two DIMMs off of, and it's mirror. Brought it back up, no errors. Then, Monday, I tried replacing...

Dell PowerEdge 2850
Hello, Digium uses the Dell PE 2850 for their testing. This site says that 3.3V PCI slot. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+hardware We are planning on purchasing a Dell PE 2850 and putting a TE205P card on it. However, the needs a 5V PCI slot. Does Dell PE 2850 has a 5V PCI slot? A person in our group tried to call Dell's customer support but they do not seem to know.

Via EPIA Mini-ITX motherboard
Just to drag this thread on a bit further ... I've been looking into these little boxes, thinking I could use one as a firewall/gateway. My one requirement is that it would need to have two PCI slots (one can be low-profile), and although I've seen PCI riser cards that can give me two slots, they've been rare, and cases that are suitable (i.e have the space, and back panels are compatible) even rarer (I've yet to find one). Does anyone know of any such cases (it'd be even better if they're available in au)? thanks

Compact, fanless appliance?
...hat has the following features: - not old hardware sold on eBay, ie. it must be up-to-date hardware sold by a company currently in business - compact, silent - has room for a 2.5" hard-disk, but if not, must provide a CompactFlash plug - ideally, room for a PCI card, possibly laid down with a riser to save space - total cost (shipping + VAT) < 200 euro If it's cheaper and not much work, I don't mind buying the parts and putting the box together myself, but otherwise, I'd rather order a complete box, ready-to-use. What are my options to provide customers with that kind of solu...

Hardware
...contradicting info. I know it isn't easy to say "this one" or "that one" but based on your experience what you think will work with the above configuration? Maybe just a "XEON 3.0" processor with PCI or PCI-X would point me in the right direction. Would I need a riser card for PCI-X for a digium card ? I'll keep looking but any help would be very much appreciated! TIA

TE121B Doesn't Fit PCI-E Slot
I have 2 HP Proliant 365 G5 servers with PCI-E risers. I bought a Digium TE121B single port card. When installing the card, the slot on the card doesn't quite line up with the tab in the PCI-E slot. If I loosen the front plate on the card, Ican sort of make it plug in, however, the card won't go in far enough to screw down the plate. I tried...

Slightly OT: PCIe x16 card in x8 slot
...C-LF, Xeon E3-1220 processor (I wish SuperMicro had a list of their servers by chassis somewhere.) I have no preference between the solutions for right now, though I have a major concern with the second solution; the PCIe slot is only x8, and the NVS510 is a x16 card. The vendor assures me that a riser/adapter can be found to plug the card into the slot, and that it will work, but I am highly concerned about the performance. I know nothing about PCIe (I haven't built a system in 10 years, though I have read the PCIe Wikipedia entries and some guides); what kind of performance hit can I expec...

Problems using TE412P and TDM400B in a IBM x3650
...intel.com/design/servers/boards/se7230nh1-e/index.htm I tried to move to an IBM x3650 system. It uses a slightly newer chipset, but apparantly it's in the same family. The SE-7230 board has been EOL'd and the suggested replacement uses the same chipset as the x3650. I had to get a PCI-X riser cage to put the cards into, as the server only supports PCIe as shipped. http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/x/rack/x3650/specs.html When I just have the TE412P in the server, no problems. If I put both the TE412P and the TDM400B in, I get no end of errors. When I put the TE412P in the first PCI-X sl...

speex_denoise on non-microphone noise (static ?)
...e that the microphone line is insulated. There are a number of problems with sound cards picking up interference from the host machine. The wires that run between ICs on a card essentially act like antennae and furthermore pick up current by inductance. High end sound cards are often on an AC97 riser, or wholly external to the machine, in order to counteract this problem. Check and see if you can identify the timing of the spikes. For example, my old SB16Pro used to pick up noise from the motors of both the hard drive and the CD-Rom drive; you could hear both spin up over the speakers if the...
