Tuning the Linux kernel?
Hi all-
It's often mentioned here that recompiling the Linux kernel may improve the
performance of asterisk.
My question is: Does re-compiling the kernel have any effect if there are
no changes to the configuration?
What parameters will typically improve performance?

Is the X100P a WinModem?
So I've been on the Asterisk list for a long time. Mostly looking to set
it up as a cheap alternative to a commercial MeetMe bridge, as a for-fun
project.
I keep noticing the Wildcard FXO X100P sorta seems like a Winmodem.
Winmodems are basically a sound card chip tied to a pots port, where the
Winders driver takes on the MO/DEM functions in software. I've always
despised them as a data

8 lines - best approach
I have 8 lines coming into an existing PBX system and am looking for a cost
effective way to replace the existing system with Asterisk. We need some of
the features in Asterisk, including its ability to support remote offices
(long distance savings).
At first glance this appears to require a T100P card and a channel bank, but
that seems rather expensive. My estimated price on that would be
