Upgrade from RHEL 6 beta ?
I've installed rhel 6 beta to start playing around with clustering, gfs2 and ldap. Will I be able to upgrade to centos 6 final or I'll have to re-install ? Nicolas

A question about memory ballooning
Hi all, How can I manage automatically memory ballooning under a kvm host (C5.6 and future C6)?? For example if I define a kvm guest to boot up with 512MB of RAM and I have configured 1GB as a maximum memory for this guest, how can I allocate this memory when guest will need it?? And the opposite question, can memory balloon be deallocated?? And is it possible to do this automatically or

freetype bytecode interpreter
It may yet be too early to get a definite answer about this, but I'm wondering what the status of the formerly patented bytecode interpreter in freetype will be in RHEL/Centos 6 and possibly future updates to RHEL/Centos 5. The patent on the technology has apparently now expired. http://freetype.sourceforge.net/patents.html and

Error installing latest CentOS kernel from %post section of kickstart
I'm running the command "yum -y update" from a script called from the the post section of my kickstart config file, and I get the following error: Installing : kernel-2.6.32-71.29.1.el6.i686 185/378 grubby fatal error: unable to find a suitable template After the install, if I log in to the system and remove that RPM and then re-install it with

Some thoughts about EL 6
Many people seem to wait for the announcement of CentOS 6.0, so I want to share some test results I did with SL 6.0.. The actual 6.0 kernel can NOT allocate tape buffers when the server is heavily loaded at least on some LSILogic hardware. There is a big problem of slab buffer increase that can cause reboot/freeze of the server under load. Reported by many and verified by me :-( So perhaps

I have RHel6. How does that turn into Centos 6?
The bickering here about Centos 6 has made me wonder what is actually legally necessary to re-distribute the RPM files that come with RHel6. I am not starting a flame ware, I hope. I'm just curious about what is minimally necessary go from RHel6 to another distribution. I suppose we could discuss "Paul Linux 6" instead of Centos, if that makes you feel more comfortable. (and not

Strange su behavior after installing latest CentOS updates
I did a "yum update" on my CentOS 6 systems yesterday for the first time in about a month and now have some automated processes failing because the PATH is not set up correctly when using "su". The problem is very easy to see by comparing the output of the following two commands: # su - <user> -c "env | grep PATH" # su <user> -c "env | grep

Java versions in CentOS
Hi All, Following the latest security updates from Oracle, the version of OpenJDK package is currently listed as: java-1.7.0-openjdk-1.7.0.51-2.4.4.1.el6_5.x86_64.rpm The Redhat security advisory lists these packages: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-0026.html but it makes no reference to the build number, which it turns out is important. The build on the package in centos 6.5 is

fastthread no longer needed?
I''m confused. Wasn''t threading fixed in 1.8.6, negating the need for fastthread? Why is fastthread still a requirement of Mongrel? Just curious. :)
