CentOS 5.2 kernel [2.6.18-92.1.1.el5] crashes on dual-PIII Compaq ProLiant 3000
After yum upgrade, the new CentOS5 kernel [ kernel-2.6.18-92.1.1.el5.i686 ]
crashes each time early in boot process on Compaq ProLiant 3000
with dual Pentium3 CPU (600 MHz, CPU0: Intel Pentium III (Katmai) stepping 03, CPU1 the same).
I get kernel panic at powernowk8_init+0x05e/0x1c3.
The previous kernel [ kernel-2.6.18-53.1.21.el5.i686 ] seems to work fine.
I am wondering if anyone has met

wbinfo -a works but wbinfo -i doesn't
We're in the process of upgrading from 3.2.14 to 3.5.4 on RHEL5.2 in an effort to eliminate frequent complete system pauses when winbindd pulls info from the AD2003 servers. The 3.2.14 packages were removed, 3.5.4 installed, and the previous smb.conf file reinstated.
wbinfo -i works, as do -g -u -t -a -K and -m.
However wbinfo -i doesn't. It returns "Could not get info for user"

winbind issue with Windows 2008 R2 - domain trusts
Hello,
I have a problem that just propped up after our windows admin did some
work. He introduced some new domain controllers and upgraded the
domain to 2008 R2. The primary domain that our linux boxes are in
seems to work, it's trusted domains. Here's an example domain:
FOO.BAR.LOCAL
The boxes are in the FOO domain and I can getent passwd and see
accounts in there fine. I used to

pvresize on a cLVM
Hi,
I'm needing to expand a LUN on my EMC CX4-120 SAN. (Well I already had done it).
On this LUN I had a PV of a cLVM VG. Know I need to run pvresize on it.
Has anybody done this on a cLVM PV ?
I'm trying to rescan the devices, but I can't "see" the new size. And,
googling on it I can only find RHEL5.2 responses.
Thanks in advance,

Interdomain trust between Samba and W2003 ADS in native mode
Hi,
I try to setup a two-way interdomain trust relationship between Samba
3.2.4 and W2003 ADS in native mode (not mixed-mode).
I follow this Samba HOWTO without success:
http://us6.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/InterdomainTrusts.html
All is working fine if i use a Windows NT4 Server instead of W2003 ADS.
Is there something to do on Samba or ADS so that it works ? Security

no "ata" sub-folder in linux-2.6.18-xen.hg/driver
Hi all,
When I make the ram disk for xen-3.3.0, I encounter a problem.
$mkinitrd -v -f initrd-2.6.18.8-xen.img 2.6.18-xen
...
No module pata_marvell found for kernel 2.6.18.8-xen, aborting.
Compared part of source code between linux-2.6.18-xen.hg/driver/* and
linux-2.6.18/driver/*(from kernel.org),
I found that linux-2.6.18-xen.hg/driver/ata doesn''t exist.

OT: SA/Apache "Best Practice"?
Alle,
Here is our situation:
Our customer leases their machines from us and contract us to to manage
them (as far as all systems administration issues). The customer does
not have root access to any machine (by their own choice, as they want
us to be responsible if something goes awry).
In the case of their web servers, we handle all configuration, they
manage the content. We make changes

xen 3.2.1 + intel quad core + 8gigs of ram + linux
Hi!
Anyone have a suggestion which version of Linux would be the best host?
We typically use Ubuntu but we are flexible since we want the best
performance and the least amount of headaches getting it installed and
working.
Thanks,
Jimmy

Linux PV Drivers - VBD device not loading - Cannot get Major 3/22 for ide
I am trying to get PV drivers running on both Centos 5.1 and Centos 5.3
HVMs, my DomU is Centos 5.2 with Xen 3.31. For 5.1 I install the
kmod-xenpv RPM but for 5.3 the drivers seem to be built-in.
For the network drivers to work I had to unload the Realtek NIC driver
and renamed its .ko files to stop it loading. Adding the Xen-Vnif alias
to modprobe.conf then got the PV NICs working nicely (Much

Group mapping question
Greetings,
I am hopeful that someone can assist me with what I am certain is a
simple misconfiguration. I am running a smb server on RHEL5.2, the
version of samba is 3.2.1. I am having a heck of a time getting group
maps to work.
The problem is as followed: Share called "office" need to be accessible
to a group of windows users. The share shows filesystem permissions of

the boot prompt, I hit <Enter>, which should start the graphical

Getting a Dom0 Kernel Version > 2.6.18 ?
As far as I work out the version of the Dom0 linux kernel has to be
2.6.18. This is causing me a lot of problem, because the driver support
in 2.6.18 is slowly falling behind, and I finding that more modern
hardware isn''t supported by the 2.6.18 drivers.
Is it possible to use a more recent version of the kernel for Dom0, or
am I stuck with 2.6.18?
Is there another way I can use more

Shared SAN disk LUN between 2 servers and migration problem
HI
Dom0 is CentOS 5.2, 64-bit, Xen version 3.2.1 and 3.2.2.
I got Fiber SAN disk system and 2 servers and i am making shared LUN
available to both servers. Then i got multipath layer running on both
Dom0s and so Xen is seeing device-mapper file, instead of two /dev/sdX
devices, then i have setup Xen domU (HVM Windows 2003) using
/dev/mapper/sharedLUN as physical storage to my windows server.
