Updates not catching up ?
...loaded and installed centos 4.1 from DVD and I a little
confused with the update procedure.
The faq from the centos.org site mentions something like 72 hrs (or
less) from one security update to goes from the sources.rpm from rh to
centos.
I was cheking rh's site
(https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel4as-errata.html) and saw one update
to mysql (https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel4as-errata.html) that I
can't get using yum upgrade.
For example. My mysql is mysql.i386 0:4.1.10a-2.RHEL4.1 and rh is
mysql-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.src.rpm..
I am using the standard yum.conf/yum.repos.d.
Is this a mirror...

List of updates in Update 3 ?
While update 3 was released last week, it looks
like there are 40 or so packages updated. I dunno
about squid, it is listed on
http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel4as-errata.html
but the changelog is from October 2005 (unless it is an rhel only
bug).

Footprint - kickstart management tool
...d how it is currently in my head).
First of all, it should be straight-forward to manage a list of systems
(or groups of systems) that have similar configurations. A config-file
could be something like:
/etc/footprint/system/proxy-servers.conf
[main]
boot options = panic=10 acpi=off
dist = rhel4as
#modules = e100
profile = proxy-servers
[proxy01]
ip = 10.0.0.1
netmask = 255.255.255.0
mac address = 00:01:02:03:004:05
...
(or even more simple, only hold 1 system)
There would be a collection of profiles, each specifying a set of
variables that influence the kickstart file. This could...

Yum Update Question
I have asked myself over the years... just what happens during the
update process? For instance, the latest updates included updates to
php. I'm wondering if apache is restarted or reloaded to read the new
php updates?
More broadly... if this is done, is it done pretty much for every
interrelated update, I guess with the exception of kernel updates?
Thanks for all the hard work.

Continuing problems with zombied dovecot-auth procs; mail-cache-fields.c IMAP procs crashing
...times it
becomes unresponsive will fix the problem, presumably by instantiating
new auth procs, but eventually this no longer works since the restart
doesn't actually kill off the zombied auth procs and the socket stops
responding.
Has anyone run into this problem?
Thanks,
J.B. Zimmerman

Centos 4
Has anyone done an upgrade from RHEL3 to RHEL4? Is this likely to break
a lot of things? How long will Centos be supporting version 3? I just
installed Centos 3.4 two weeks ago!
The only problem I'm having with Centos is that the perl is a bit old. I
have errors with spamassassin. So far bugzilla for spamassasin is
blaming it on the version of perl included in RHEL3 and bugs in the

Correlation with LNAELV ....
.... I am new to this list (got referred here from the fedora list, COLD
....) and have a few questions. I poked around CentOS.org & couldn't
figure these out, so here goes:
1. What is the correspondence, if any, betwixt RHEL, err, I mean LNAELV
version #'s and CentOS version #'s ?
2. Does CentOS plan to branch permanently away from LNAELV distribution,
or periodically
