wine and Real Rhapsody player
I am trying to make Rhapsody (the Real Networks music service) to run under wine. This guy, AmishGeek, says he got it to work: http://www.amishgeek.com/info/rhapsody But I don't quite understand all his instructions...and I tried sending him an email but his email box was full. I don't understand the parts about installing windows media ( my machine is dual boot XP, Suse 9.3 ). Does

Rhapsody Streaming Music Service with Wine on Fedora
This program (www.listen.com) requires IE5+ and windows media player. I have tried installing those on a fake windows drive with version=win98 (quite a task for IE6 by itself), but when I try to install Windows media player 9, it tells me I already have it installed, and IE6 works slowly and gives lots of error messages. I have the program working on my WinXP partition, so I deleted the

Rhapsody errors out on cookies?
I just tried to install the latest version of Rhapsody. Everything is fine until I try to log in. Then it gives me an error that cookies are disabled and asks to enable them. It fails this ad infinitum. Is there anything I can check?

Error During Rhapsody Install
So I followed the advice about installing SideNet and it seemed to go ok. After that I upgraded to the latest Suse 9.3 build of Wine. Then I tried to install Rhapsody.exe It got to a certain point in the install and reported: MessageType = 2, MessageID = 3060 : Param = 100fixme:vxd:VXD_Open Unknown/unsupported VxD L"mcstrm.vxd". Try setting Windows version to 'nt40' or

Oh, I almost forgot... If you're going under compulsory licensing: 1) Listener requests cannot be honored, otherwise you will end up labeled an "interactive service" along with Audiogalaxy Rhapsody & the like. Which means more & more expensive royalties. 2) You cannot play more than 3 songs of the same album in any 3 hour period (no more than 2 in a row). Nor can you

Trying to install a Win Program and getting a "No Audio Playback" error
Am trying to get the Rhapsody (listen.com) music service setup on my machine running a Debian-based distribution with a 2.4.24 kernel. I compiled the 5/05/2004 build of Wine successfully on my machine (confirmed by running Notepad), and have added a "[Version]" section to my config file to tell it I'm running Win2K since Rhapsody requires win2K or winxp. The install starts, but

FWIW, configure is already checking to see whether the compiler is gcc or not. There's an if clause in the configure scripts for ogg, vorbis, theora, and other of our packages that uses this to add

No case would fit them so it's just sprawled out on a desk away from everything else with 4 power supplies powering the drives. When it's time to buy more disks then I'll have to set up a

When trying to install a windows program under Wine in 9.3 Suse ( Rhapsody.EXE ), wine reports: " MessageType = 2, MessageID = 3060 : Param = 100fixme:vxd:VXD_Open Unknown/unsupported VxD L"mcstrm.vxd". As for the storage, I recommend something like AFS, that's distributed and network-transparent. AFS/Kerberos has a tendency to take over the network for use as an authentication protocol, but it's both possible to use AFS/Krb in a hetereogenous environment and a good idea to switch to Krb5 :). OpenAFS is quite a good product, I am finding. A few general notes: Isn't cdparanoia more

Ditto Scott - you nailed it !! But the DMCA actually sets rules on requests and processing them without being considered "interactive" - for instance the time frame allowed from when requests are made and then processed and actually air (minimum 60 minutes), to displaying your playlist - (can not be displayed public in the order of actual performance) basically as long as you never

CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
Hey FLAC gang - Just thought you'd like to know CD Baby has switched to FLAC for archiving the 40,000 CDs we have in stock. Luckily HD space is down below $1/gig so we got a 6-terabyte RAID-5 box set up for about $7000. Got the FreeBSD boxes churning away night and day, ripping and archiving. I'll do a more formal press release for ya in a couple months as we're further along, but
