...utility is great for file verifying. The -n option on it tells it to rename incorrect files. ...n external USB 3.0 2.5" drive case and _then_ try to boot from it, that also chokes. So it seems pretty clear to me that Gigabyte has snafued something, perhaps so seriously so that even the best SYSLINUX may not be able to overcome the (botched) BIOS firmaware. But we'll see. Regards, rfg

Of course, during all of this experimentation, I have been messing around a lot with the BIOS settings, but really only the ones relating to specifying the general classes of boot devices (e.g. floppy, CD/DVD, Hard Disk, USB-HDD, for 1st, 2nd, 3rd) and also the separate Boot Priority list....

Now my BIOS gets down to the point of printing its standard message: Boot from CD/DVD : and then immediately, in the very next line, I get this message: Invalid partition table and then the system is just hung. As I was rebooting with the USB stick I created via the process you described/suggested/recommended/requested above, I took a quick moment to first go into my BIOS Setup menus and looked there to see if the fresh USB stick was or was not listed in the BIOS's Hard Disk boot Priority list...

...effect, check all of my backup files for integrity? Please note that the options I have been using to make my backups are as follows: -v -t -axHAXS --delete --fileflags --force-change I don't imagine that either the -n or -c options will interact badly with any of those, correct? Regards, rfg

So I think the drive perhaps just got a bit flaky during a time when I *did not* have an small utility fan right next to it and pointing at it. I _do_ have that now.)
