RFE: IMAP LIST Extension for Special-Use Mailboxes
Timo,
would you consider adding support for "IMAP LIST Extension for Special-Use
Mailboxes" <http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc6154.txt> any time near in the
future?
I would really love to get rid of all those folders created by all those
different mail clients just because they can't agree to use the same folder
for special purpose.
Obviously clients need to support it too. Having Dovecot support it certainly
would ma...

LIST-EXTENDED support?
Hi there.
Can I check if LIST-EXTENDED refers to RFC 6154
(http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6154), rfc for special use mailboxes.
I'd like to specify a designated folder as \Spam and etc. Googling
"dovecot list-extended" and "dovecot special use" suggests that dovecot
supports this feature (via patch logs and 1 bug report for Mozilla
Thunderbird which suggests that...

SPECIAL-USE again
Hi,
Great to see Thunderbird support SPECIAL-USE now.
I would like to hear the list about the intended use of SPECIAL-USE.
I get the impression from several earlier mails here that the intention
is for the server to globally decide what the folder-name of a specific
SPECIAL-USE folder is for all users.
That's the way the documentation exemplifies it and what I get from
posts like this:

MS asks for feedback on standards support in Outlook/Exchange
...and
implements it using the XLIST command (as per MS-STANOIMAP), as
documented in MS-STANOIMAP part 2.2.38; however, the LIST command in the
same document doesn't mention the extension, so I'd assume it (Outlook
2013) doesn't necessarily support this feature using LIST as specified
per RFC6154 (but only using explicitly XLIST.)
Usually, any newer IMAP server supporting RFC6154 "LIST" ("XLIST")
supports both the older XLIST as well as the newer LIST syntax. If it
doesn't, a patch implementing this feature shouldn't be longer than a
few (10 maybe?) lines of co...

For creating a special use mailbox there is the CREATE-SPECIAL-USE
capability (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6154, Section 3). As you
suggested, the special use attributes can also be changed using the
METADATA capability (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6154, Section 4).
Unfortunately, both of these features are not yet supported by Dovecot.
I think it is already possible to return special use attributes from...

Outlook renames Junk folder
Hello,
Some versions of Outlook will randomly rename the Junk folder to Junk Email.
This of course causes errors because Dovecot can no longer store junk.
I go in to Outlook for each user and add another Junk folder, so now
they have Junk and Junk Email. This fix action lasts a while until
Outlook decides to do it again.
Is there a way to tell Dovecot that if the Junk folder doesn't

According to https://www.imapwiki.org/SpecialUse <https://www.imapwiki.org/SpecialUse> Outlook might support RFC6154 SPECIAL-USE extension.
You can try setting special_use = \Junk for that junk folder.

questions about SPECIAL-USE and virtual
Hi,
I have some questions about Special-Use and virtual namespace:
I want to create a virtual namespace with mailboxes: Sent, Unread,
Flagged, All.
1. Is it enough to put in the config file:
mailbox virtual/Sent {
auto = subscribe
special_use = \Sent
}
mailbox virtual/Unread {
auto = subscribe
special_use = \Unread #Is it correct?
}

Why is the flag $SENT ? http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc6154.html mentiones nothing
like that.

Possible bug about the SPECIAL-USE / CREATE-SPECIAL-USE extensions
...ed on my MacBook (via
homebrew) that I've been using to test my IMAP library against.
What is interesting is that even though Dovecot does not advertise
CREATE-SPECIAL-USE, it supports creation of special-use folders via the
"CREATE FolderName (USE (\Whatever))" syntax.
According to rfc6154, a server is supposed to advertise the
CREATE-SPECIAL-USE extension if it supports this:
An IMAP server that supports this OPTIONAL feature will advertise the
"CREATE-SPECIAL-USE" capability string. Clients MUST NOT use the
"USE" parameter unless the server advertises...
