Failover
I''m expermienting with Shorewall for use protecting my servers(about 25
all currently using pub addresses). My pointy-haired-boss is somewhat
sceptical about adding a firewall that would be a single point of
failier for our services. Does anyone have a good set of documentation
that I could use in setting up either an Active/Active or Active/passive
setup with two identical shorewall

HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO ACCESS FROM A DOS-BOOTDISK (VER.7.0) RUNNING ON
A WINDOWS95-MACHINE TO A SAMBA-SERVER (WITHOUT STARTING
WINDOWS). IF WIN95 IS RUNNING THE CONNECTION WITH THE SAMBA-

WHICH PARTS OF DRIVER, MANAGER, CLIENTS, PROTOCOLS ARE TO INSTALL ON
THE MACHINE AN ON THE BOOTDISK?

problem with machine joining domains
Hi there.
I have a problem with joining machines to a ldap/samba domain.
originally I had errors saying can't find root user to auth, which is solved, but now when a machine tries to join the domain I get an error saying "user is not found" however the machine is added and the logs show no problems as all authentication is successfull
can anybody give some insight ?

how do I export nt2k policy to a file?
We migrated our entire domain over to a samba3 domain, now I would like
to apply a few policies to the network.
I've been reading a few migration papers, most mention about a .POL
file which is created upon exporting policy keys on a wintel machine.
Using gpedit I don't see an export option. What tool should I use for this?

Hi,
Just like Stegan earlier in this list, I wanted to report the same bug.
I am not sure if it has changed already.

privsep
i think our strategy for privsep is to just keep portable sync'd closely
with openbsd's tree, even though things will be broken wrt privsep for
many platforms. then we just get primary one's working and work out
issues as we go along. i'll start to work on sun and hp-ux again
tomorrow.

Bug in the HOWTO: proxy-arp (?)
Hello alltogether,
I''m new to the list, so please excuse any violations of listiquette...
I didn''t have to much to do with linux based firewalling and routing for
quite a time and found that proxy-arp changed in between...
As I struggled with it I found that the Advanced routing... howto wasn''t to
helpfull. Especially the documentation seems to be rather vice versa to

tripwire
Tripwire is probably one of must-have utilities for many system
administrators. However, it is missing from almost all recent Red
Hattish distributions. IMO, probably due to the fact that source
compiles only on i386, and needs patches to compile almost every time
new major version of gcc is released. However, in absence of good
replacement, this is all we have. (IMO, other tools such as AIDE
