When to stub/when to mock (was Rails functional testing and Mocha)
...necessary but uninteresting (from the perspective of the tests) out of the way of the test methods, which can focus entirely on the interesting bits. The motivation is the same as Nat Pryce''s - expecting only the interesting bits will make tests less brittle - but the resulting principle revolves on a different axis. Thoughts on this? search without flush.
Hi, Is it possible to perform a search without flushing the index? I've got an application that updates the index every 4 hours but I need to be able to search the new data fairly quickly after the index is updated. The problem revolves around the fact that the update is often much less than 10 000 documents so it isn't being flushed until quite a bit latter. I realise I can do a flush after the documents have been updated but I was trying to avoid the flush. Is there a way of running a search after I've called add_docu...

Maildir, INDEX, and folders
...r:~/Maildir:INDEX=/var/spool/dovecot/indexes/%1u/%u ...will the dovecot daemon(s) automagically create (A) the parent user folders (i.e. .../indexes/t/tengel/)(1), and (B) the necessary subfolders for all the child folder indexes? (i.e. .../tengel/.Lists.Dovecot/) Most of the doc info seems to revolve around moving your indexes if you use mbox, I'm a little fuzzy on what happens with Maildir when you attempt this. thanks! -te (1) in our setup, initially user's home folders are created on an admin server -> NFS that is not the mail server, so Dovecot needs to create the home &am...

URGENT: libdvdcss install hosed /var
...was trying to copy a DVD earlier this morning, but k3b said it couldn't read encrypted DVDs. So, I installed libdvdcss from rpmforge and restarted k3b. It hung the system. I rebooted, and / had been damaged. After running e2fsck from the repair prompt, I rebooted and a whole slew of errors revolving around various /var directories that did not ecist occurred. I have been trying to repair /var, and so far with a fair modicum of success, but I've hit an interesting wall - two, actually. 1) The gdm refuses to come up. It claims that "Server Authorization directory (daemon/ServAuthD...

sendmail and spamassassin
I have a problem getting spamd and sendmail (both stock CentOS4 rpms) to work together on a couple of smtp relay machines. This is clearly a configuration issue and no doubt revolves around my lack of comprehension of how this is to work. Basically, the setup consists of two frontend public smtp transports that redirect all email through a firewall to an internal imap server for final delivery. The firewall and sendmail access map prohibit connections to the imap server...

One feature I do have planned (again, thanks to comments), but haven''t had much time to devote to it at the moment, is to introduce the ability to only save those attributes that have been modified. There are of course issues revolving around this, ie, what to do about magic columns like created_at/updated_at, other attributes introduced via other plugins, mysql timestamp columns, etc. Chris http://rubyforge.org/projects/actsasmodified

[2.5.2p1] openbsd-compat/glob.c: ARG_MAX not defined, alternative
Hi. On sparc-sun-sunos4.1.4 (i.e., -DSUNOS4), ARG_MAX is not defined anywhere, although <sys/limits.h> has the following line: #define _POSIX_ARG_MAX 4096 This is more a minimum imposed by POSIX than anything else. The proper solution revolves around this: ======================================================================== bash$ cat > x.c #include <unistd.h> #include <stdio.h> int main(int argc, char **argv) { printf("%ld\n", sysconf(_SC_ARG_MAX)); return 0; } ^D bash$ gcc -o x x.c bash$...

Options in Brazil
...to plan sitting in Chicago, USA. I know there is a large section of Brazillian Asterisk users who actively read this list- so I'd love to pump out a few questions- note, I'm not necessarily a newbie, having successfully implemented a few Asterisk boxes here in the US. My primary question revolves around connection hardware- I need to plug in 8 POTS lines (I've no idea what they'd be called there) to an Asterisk box. Is digium's TDM400 series availble down there? Recommended? Undesirable? ATA's? (Sipura, presumably) - channel banks? If anyone has any solid knowledge the...

Linux vs NT: a new test
Don't know how many ppl saw/read the following: http://www.zdnet.com/pcweek/stories/news/0,4153,1015266,00.html One of the comments on Slashdot was the question as to how well 4.4lite would have done in the same tests, as they "theorize" that alot of the problems revolve around Linux's IP stack... Directory routing to wrong extension if dial tones are pressed too quick.
...e one issue, which has been reported by several of our customers. I've tested it, and it does indeed seem to be a problem. When the customer is asked to dial in the first three letters of the person they are trying to reach, they will be routed to the wrong extension. The problem seems to revolve around how quickly the keys are pressed. So if 645 for Mikell is pressed very quickly, they end up being routed to Sarah Fish. But if they take their time, say 2 seconds between each keystroke, everything works ok. Are they any settings that can be adjusted for this? Thanks, Eddie Mikell

ACL Win XP problem
...name. When I enter a username I then get a box that asks for a username and password. However, no matter what username and password I put in here I still get a message back that it cannot find the "object". As I've read through the posts about this in the past everything seems to revolve around having a domain running, which we do not/cannot have. Is it possible to add users to an file's ACL with a standalone samba server? And if so, is there a configuration part that you need in order to add users? Thanks, Jamison Stepan

CentOS Repo Questions (and Samba)
Hello, I have two questions which are really CentOS repository related, but they primarily revolve around the Samba packages available. 1) Why is the s390 architecture version of Samba for CentOS 4 so much more up to date than the i386 architecture version? New R-SIG for Discrete Choice Modelling
Hello all, I'd like to announce the availability of a mailing list for a newly-formed SIG (Special Interest Group) dedicated to using R for Discrete Choice Modelling. This list is intended for discussion of issues revolving around the design and analysis of Discrete Choice (aka Stated Choice, Stated Preference or Choice-Based Conjoint) experiments. While R has good infrastructure for experimental design in the traditional sense (i.e. generation and evaluation of fractional factorials and balanced incomplete blocks...

Constrained non-linear optimisation
...(a_i) <= b <= g(a_i) for some (simple) f and g. Using optim, I can get the optimisation to work when the non-linearity is included but not constrained, but gives poor results (as I'd expect). However, I'm not sure how best to go about the constraint condition. My initial attempts revolve around the use of logarithmic barrier function, but this only appears to work when using method="CG". When using "BFGS", the value of b 'goes out of bounds' and the loglikelihood starts throwing NaN, which is particularly bad if I want to box constrain the a_i using...

Install problems (group permissions) with nut 2.7.2
...cessfully start unless I add "-u root" to it (even if I am root when executing the start command). The directions don't indicate to do that, so I've always figured I have permissions incorrect somewhere. Now I'm finally at the point where I need to get this right. Does this revolve around hotplug and udev? In other words, is the idea that the created USB device will be in the "nut" group, and thus I'd be able to tell upsdrvctrl to start if I am user "ups"? Or do ups/nut not really play into any of this? Rob > -----Original Message----- >...
