Backup of shared data-files
...butes, so you're covered when it comes to ACL. The main question becomes if you need the backup itself to be encrypted, and if yes you might want to look at alternatives to rsync. I heard good things about Borg that Robert mentioned, Rowland seems to use it, too. Personally, I currently use Restic which is similar to Borg but supports S3 type storage. Hope this helps. -Viktor On 14.03.2019 19:16, Gregory Sloop via samba wrote: > I'd like to re-flag this. > I got a single reply - and wondered if there were any other approaches that I haven't considered - or if someone wants...

We learned a bit her e and there about some side effects with borg cache in the beginning and invested some time in hardening and Ansible role. Before we choosed borg restic was on the list. Looks good too. Do not now anymore why we decided for borg. Recommendations for backup methods
...ups. Either inotify-based or cron-based.? The whole mail folder structure would then be copied to a remote storage site.? I've changed services - I now use OpenDrive for the remote storage and can access the remote drive as a mounted folder via WebDAV.? I also now use a cron-based series of restic jobs for the backup processing. Because I have some large folders - both personal & business letters going back quite some time as well as mailing list archives - some mail folders can be quite sizable.? Now I'm wondering, between sdbox's support for alternate locations and the abi...

Exclude dovecot-uidlist files from a Maildir backup ?
Hi, I am using restic to backup my email (stored in dovecot Maildir format) to Amazon S3 As each message is a separate file on disk, and those files don't change after the email has been delivered and read by the user, the incremental backup each day is fairly efficient as it only stored new mails. However, the...

Hi all, borgbackup is a very interesting backup tool with a lot of features. It is ready for "production" or I should expect some bad surprise? Anyone use it for work purpose? Thanks in advance. Alessandro.

[Bug 2294] Detect renamed files and handle by renaming instead of delete/re-send
...comes from. Reading the unison documentation, it seems that for linux they track the combo of inode & last modification time to detect moves/renames. I wonder if some kind of collision is possible under a rare multi-filesystem edge case. Inodes aren't unique across multiple filesystems. Restic is another option that handles moves/renames/dedup automatically, just at the cost of CPU time for encrypting/hashing. Probably worth considering borg and friends at that point. Well, maybe the cost of rsync's inefficiency here is worth it's simplicity. But it would be a great feature to h...
