Why isn't it possible to lower TCP values of running SSH session?

a stock config. On Linux TCP timeouts are controlled by these 3
files:
$ cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_keepalive_time \

These are their default values. I modified them to 3, 1, 1
respecitively before establishing a new SSH connection. After
establishing an SSH connection to a machine next to me I unplugged a
network cable on the remote machine and had to wait for 3 seconds for
the SSH session to be terminated by Linux. This is what I

Display IP addresses on the system console *before* the login prompt.
I have a bunch of VBox Linux VMs (CentOS 6/7, Debian7/8/9, Ubuntu
(14.0/16.04, Alpine) that get dynamic IPs. To get their respecitive
IP addresses I have to login and run 'ip addr'
I would like such info to be displayed on the VM console *before* the
login prompt. Ideally an ASCII log + info (see below sig line).
Thus, I can get the info from the VM console without having to login.

What does 'man agetty' (or whatever you're using) on the OS in question say?
Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't list "\4{<nic>}" as an option and it doesn't work, 16.04 does and it does appear there (might have to press Enter to get a screen refresh).
If the OS doesn't support it then you'll have to get creative (send 'ip addr' output to /etc/issue at boot

Unable to find the source of the error: bad file descriptora

(budgetone 102's) and set aside a little box to run Asterisk on.
Two phones have been setup and plugged in. They have IP addresses
192.168.1.106 and 192.168.1.107.
I've tried adding these into the config files. The names are "matthew"
and "serverroom" respecitively.
However, Asterisk is throwing up these errors when logged into the asterisk
console (using asterisk -r)

Getting Polycom IP500 to talk to Asterisk - um... Newbie question :)

(There are plenty of dial modifiers you can use, but there's a basic wau
to get started...now just dial 175 and 176 from each phone respecitively
to reach the opposite...
