Residential services
..."Hi, I'm new to Asterisk and I have a couple questions..."
OK, now that that's over with:
I've just started working for a small CLEC, and I'm trying to sell * to
my boss as a replacement for some expensive/inflexible/closed-source
software he's been using to provide residential dialtone with for a
couple years now. Presently, we have:
1) a cluster of sun boxes running propriatary IP-PBX software
2) a cisco 3640 h323 gatekeeper
3) a cisco as5300 pstn gateway
I'd like to use sip between an asterisk box and that as5300 (which right
now is only speaking h323), and I...

a2billing for residential voip usage
...erisk 1.6 and got it working. The only problem is that I'm trying to setup something to manage who's using the most minutes in the house. I noticed a2billing only works for callin cards setups, or maybe I didn't configure it correctly for what I want. Can I use a2billing for "?VoIP residential services"? if yes, how? if no, please guide me to another application I can use along side asterisk.
Thanks in advanced for your time.

Residential router w/ QoS support?
Did anybody ever come across an affordable, residential cable/dsl router
with support for QoS?
The ones I've seen so far (Netgear, D-Link and W-Linx) do not seem to
support it. I noticed that even email can damage a G.711 stream on an
128kbit uplink, leave alone file-sharing applications. I understand this
is strictly related to *, but nevertheles...

asterisk and verizon DSL
Is anyone succesfully running Asterisk behind verizon residential DSL? I seem to
be having some problems with my Asterisk server switching to Verizon. I'm
attempting to do some troubleshooting, but I'm really interested in knowing of
anyone's setup that already has Asterisk working with Verizon residential DSL.
Thanks

Residential portals and real world scalability
...uot;Trixbox!" as I'm looking to find something
which can potentially accomodate over 5,000 users to begin
with.
Off-list answers appreciated if need be. Trying to find
something in a turn-key (not turkey) solution to deploy
to scrap something built in house. Would like to be able
to offer residential users the ability to destroy their
dialplans (remote call forwarding, find me follow me,
see/print bill) etc.
I'd appreciate real world experiences and have already
been down the VoIP-Info road looking at the majority of
platforms offered (A2Billing, Supertec, etc.) with no
success.

Best ATA for general residential deployment??
...gh speed internet service and
are having trouble finding the right SIP analog terminal adapter. In
order to support people's existing phones and wiring we need to use an ATA.
1) The first priority is we want to set it up and never look at it again ;)
The way you make money on lower cost residential services is to make
sure you spend as little labor as possible after the fact. If we have
to install a $200 part, we'll make that money back with the monthly fee
over time as long as we don't have to go back to, it or replace it, or
spend a lot of time on the phone doing support.

voice quality of Aastra 480i CT and cordless
Hi Folks,
Looking for feedback on the cordless phones with the Aastra 480i CT handset. Is voice quality comparable to standard consumer residential 2.4GHz cordless phones in the US$30 - $50 price range, or better/worse?
How about handset and speakerphone quality for the main phone?
Seems like there have been various big issues with firmware in past, but is it pretty stable now?
Thanks,
Scott

CallerID name lookup AGI script
...I wrote
an AGI script that does the following:
1) If it's a toll free number (800|888|877|866), set the CallerID name to
"TollFree Caller"
2) Use curl to look up the number in Google phonebook
3) If a business listing, set the CallerID name to business name, as is.
4) If it's a residential listing, reverse the listing so it's last name first,
then set the CallerID name to that.
5) If there's no match in Google phonebook, look up the NPA/NXX on

Strange voicemail problem when call forwarding off local PBX
...ed a weird issue and though I'd share.
I have a pretty standard business PBX setup for a business customer,
local extensions, Linksys phones, call comes in and rings local
extension
exten => 101,1,Dial(SIP/101,20,tr)
the physical phone has call forward enabled to the users home, Time
Warner residential line service.
Intermittently all seems to work except when the home line voicemail
picks up. You hear the users home voicemail greeting, but
sporadically, instead of hearing a beep after the greeting is
finished, the local PBX initiates a transfer.
Sometimes you do hear the beep from the residen...

asterisk compatible, hot swappable PRI card
Hi
We are in a project where we will use asterisk as a residential gateway for
IP phone service.
We are aiming to replace the primary phone line so the service must be up
as long as possible so we are looking at ways to avoid shut downs.
We are looking for a solution to allow us to add/remove PRI cards without
shutting down the system
Is there such a thing a...

Polycom phones and dynamic IP for NAT
I know the Polycoms work with NAT, but you have to specify the public
IP.
Is there anyway for it to discover the external IP automatically?
I like the phones (been playing with a 301) but for some of our clients
who have a dynamic IP (and no hope of getting a static ie cable or
residential DSL) I'd be afraid to use them since you have to specify the
IP.
What about the Cisco phones? Is the IP hard set? Are there any good
"dynamic IP" compatible SIP phones that aren't crap?

There are a few situations here.
1. You are a business customer with a static IP, and are entitled to send/receive SMTP by your ISP (Comcast)
2. You are a business/residential customer who is allowed to send (not likely allowed to receive) SMTP and you have a domain elsewhere to receive replies to your email
3. You are a business/residential customer who is NOT allowed to send SMTP except for your ISP (Comcast) provided email.
Only you would know which on for sure is y...

MGCP with Cisco doesn't work
