"Include" directive in ~/.ssh/config (reprise)
Hi, About a year and a half ago, Hank Leininger posted a plea to this list for the inclusion of an Include directive in OpenSSH's configuration file. Hank's suggestion is detailed and thorough enough IMHO, so instead of repeating it I'll link it here http://marc.info/?l=openssh-unix-dev&m=118236823907002&w=2 . I'm also interested in this feature, and though my C

terms.inner() reprise
I quickly recieved several replies to my terms.inner question. To summarize: 1. "It was never in R" Clearly I was mistaken in my assumptions. Since gam used it, and gam was ported, I assumed terms.inner had to have been in R at some point. But that version of gam must never have made it to R. 2. Given #1, it's not too surprising that I didn't (yet) get any answers to the

Need Advice: Considering Converting a Package from S3 to S4 -- reprise
I read the list in digest form which sometimes makes me late to respond. Peter Dalgaard wrote: In all fairness, it should probably be noted that quite a few people swear BY S4 in addition to those who swear AT it. Lest I give the impression of only dislike -- the coxme package (major rewrite nearly done, I'm now testing) depends heavily on the bdsmatrix package which implements a very

Problem with Samba and Windows Terminal Server 2008 (reprise)
Hi, has somebody found a solution for the single smbd process opened on a samba server by TS 2008? Or found the correct syntax for multiuserenable on Windows 2008 server? Thanks, Emanuele

Rails Monitoring, reprise
Last week I posted a question about monitoring Rails applications. Basically, the java folks at my business cited one of their reasons for sticking with Java is it''s monitoring tools. After picking some ears, I found out that the one we''re looking at most is JBoss Operations Network. And I have to say, it''s pretty neat.

frailtypack
I can't comment on frailtypack issues, but would like to mention that coxme will handle nested models, contrary to the statement below that "frailtypack is perhaps the only .... for nested survival data". To reprise the original post's model cgd.nfm <- coxme(Surv(Tstart, Tstop, Status) ~ Treatment + (1 | Center/ID), data=cgd.ag) And a note to the poster-- you should

R-alpha: Playing the tag game
Here are a handful of oddities in pre0.50-7 (at some risk of reprisals from people waiting for the real 0.50...): I was mucking about trying to figure out how to know which tags has been used in a function call, and some weird stuff happened. ---------- A call with tagged arguments is something like a list, the tags can be used to access elements, but the names attribute is absent, until the

Windows Vista issues
It seemed FUD [*] has been prevailing here and elsewhere on Vista security features. I asked our sysadmins to set up a Vista box for me on which I have access to all levels of accounts. Many of the issues I found were covered by earlier answers and all in the upcoming rw-FAQ (currently available at http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/R/rw-FAQ.html and in the 2.5.0 pre-releases) but a quick

iconv documentation error
This caught us yesterday when a string that we assumed to be in UTF-8 was actually using CP1252. (This came from an internal web based service, so the root cause is not R's fault.) The help page for iconv states that the result of an invalid conversion is NA only when the toRaw argument is TRUE, but this appears to be true in general. Example: test1 <- "M?ni?re's

censorReg/survreg
Hi all, I would like to ask whether anyone knows if the censorReg in S-plus regress the mean survival model or the hazard and if it uses the maximum likelihood in order to estimate the values? In addition, is there anyone knowing why censorReg does not exist in R and what's the difference between censorReg and survreg (besides the truncation)? Cheers,Skevi [[alternative HTML version

R-devel Digest, Vol 98, Issue 19
The replies so far have helped me see the issues more clearly. Further comments: 1. This issue started with a bug report from a user: library(survival) fform <- as.formula(Surv(time, status) ~ age) myfun <- function(dform, ddata) { predict(coxph(dform, data=ddata), newdata=ddata) } Gabor's suggestion to change the call is a useful idea but not completely relevant: I'm

ext3-0.0.5d released
Hi, ext3-0.0.5d.tar.gz is now up on ftp.uk.linux.org:/pub/linux/sct/fs/jfs/ and ftp.*.kernel.org:/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/ as patches against 2.2.18. This only contains the kernel bits: we're in the process of syncing up on some e2fsprogs so I'll do another release shortly once we've got all of the pending changes for the user-mode tools assembled. This release is mostly

tinc vs. ipchains masquerading
Howdy, I tried tackling this on irc with Ivo, but I suspect that irc may really not be the best medium for technical discussions, so I'll reprise it here. I am trying to duplicate the "tinc from behind a masquerading firewall" example from the tinc web site: (home) <--> (masquerading firewall) <--> (office) 192.168.1.21 192.168.1.1/1.2.3.4

Package issue
I've converted the bdsmatrix package (used by coxme) to the newer style of S4, and uploaded it. It is in the pkg directory of survival, on r-forge. I'm stuck on something that is almost certainly a namespace issue. I've borrowed liberally from Matrix (a big help) and read the documentation, and just upgraded to 2.8.1 - but still stuck. All the tests work when I run them "by
