OpenSSH sftp(1) renovation project for GSoC 2009
...I submitted an application (aka student proposal) to OpenSSH via
GSoC on Thursday (2009-04-02 19:39:21Z). Of course, I cannot know
if it will be accepted, but in any case, here is the abstract for
anybody on the list who may be interested in offering feedback:
The objective of the OpenSSH sftp(1) renovation project is to improve
the current sftp(1) client to allow its use as a drop-in replacement
for scp(1). This requires implementing both recursive uploads/downloads
and an scp(1)-compatible command-line interface. The scp(1) command
has an `-r' flag for recursive transmission, but sftp(1) do...

New High Performance Rink System Installed In Washington State
...pt. 15, about four
months after the SnoKing Ice Arena closed.
Washington Ice Skating Association, which owns both the former SnoKing
rink and the Olympicview private ice rink in
Mountlake Terrace, is remodeling and reopening the rink as the Lynnwood
Ice Center.
The new ice center will be in the renovated SnoKing building at 19803 68th
Ave. W. After 20-plus years of being open to
the public, the SnoKing Ice Arena closed suddenly at the end of March.
Former SnoKing manager Doug Stewart said they
left because "we leased the land and building, and it wasn't economically
feasible to conti...

Is Asterisk ready for "real" use?
Okay,
I am facing a move in two months to newly renovated space. I
have to decide *this week* between:
A) Pull LAN and phone cables, prepare to move and expand our
"traditional" PBX (Panasonic KX-TD1232 and VPS200).
or
B) Pull only LAN cables, go VoIP, use Asterisk as PBX.
It is *not* an option to purchase a VoIP system package from

Hi eric,
Thank you for your interest in the property listed for rent. You were
the first to email from the ad. We just finished all new renovations and
are currently prepared to rent with flexible terms. We will work with
you on move in date, lease security deposit and length.
I know you desire the precise address of the property but we do want not
to disclose the address before you are qualified. We have had a string

dhcpd errors
...ient end is that it doesn't get an IP, and so
it doesn't boot. The usual remedy is to unplug/plug-in the cat5 cable
at the thin client, or to move the thin client to another network drop.
This has me thinking there's a problem with the cat5 cabling (the office
is going through a major renovation). But, I'm not 100% that is the
case. It could be a problem with the dhcp server.
I don't have easy access to that office - it's remote, and I'm only out
there once every few months. It's why I want to make sure it's not a
software problem first.
At the moment I ha...

Damien,
I am a student at Webster university, and I am interested in
participating the the Summer of Code this year.
I noticed your project idea regarding renovating sftp to improve its
command-line interface. Can you tell me more about this? For this
project, I assume you have certain key features in mind besides
recursive uploads/downloads via the command-line interface.
In addition, by "command-line interface", I assume you mean the "sft...

...d OpenSSH?" Bear in mind that improving OpenSSH means
getting code completed, reviewed and committed to our CVS repository
6. Specific projects
Many of the questions were about the specific ideas that we had listed
on http://www.openssh.com/gsoc.html so here is some more detail on each:
6.1 Renovate sftp
The motivation for this idea is to make sftp(1) a compelling replacement
for scp(1). scp(1) has a very easy to use command-line interface,
supports recursive copies ("scp -r") and is quite fast - it does not
need a server round-trip for each file that it copies. Unfortunately
scp...

Active Directory Capacity?
Hi list,
I am wondering if there is a theoretical maximum for an Active Directory
forest, according to Samba or MS? My concern comes from this.
We are piloting AD with Samba 4 at a couple of our schools. My thought was
to eventually get the top-level forest hosted at our central office, then
setup each school as a "site" with its own AD DC at the site, configured to
use each

[OT] Searching for SNetTerm author
...ckage called SNetTerm; an MS-Windows based enhanced SSH
communications program. SNetTerm is from a corporation called InterSoft
International, Inc. This firm's web site was last accessible in June 2014 and
is now 'Under Construction' (in much the same way as restaurants are 'Under
Renovation' I suspect). I have tried tracking down an email address but
everything to do with InterSoft International, Inc. appears out of date. The
phone number I have has been disconnected. So, I have little hope of getting
any response from the business.
However, the author of SNEtTerm is/was...

The News Corp. chairman and CEO has been caught between two Manhattan residences - his old SoHo loft, which he sold to fashion designer Elie Tahari for $25 million, and his new Fifth Avenue apartment, which he bought for $44 million in 2004 and is still renovating.
CHARLESTON, West Virginia (AP) -- Leaning on two canes, Sen. Robert C. Byrd hardly looks like a billion-dollar industry -- or "Big Daddy," as the 88-year-old Democrat calls himself.

Summer of Code student for OpenSSH: Carlos Silva
Hi,
We are delighted to accept Carlos Silva's proposal to renovate
sftp(1) as part of the Google Summer of Code.
Many of the ~40 applications we received were of high quality and
choosing the best one from the top five was particularly difficult.
Unfortunately, since this is our first time through the GSoC and because
we only have one "full-time" men...

Argument processing with sftp
Greetings,
One aspect of the recent sftp renovation which I don't recall being
discussed is its command-line argument processing.
In particular, the command-line syntax supports retrieving a file as
follows:
$ sftp hoastA:file1 file2
But it does not support a similar syntax to send a file. In other words,
$ sftp file1 hostA:file2
is n...
