Doubt on using lattice
...ppose this is a very simple question, but as I've lost already a bit of
time with it, without being able to get what I wanted, I'm addressing the
question to the group in the hope someone can help me.
I pretend to plot the richness of herbaceous species (RichHN) as a function
of time since remnant isolation (Isol) conditioned to the area of the
remnant (fArea - this is a factor with 3 classes). I also want to
differentiate the sites plotted using a grouping binary variable (Urb).
So far, I've written this:
extinction<-xyplot(RichHN~Isol|fArea, data = Data, type = "p", grou...

Problem running The Last Remnant
Despite following all the instructions on the application database for running the last remnant, it doesn't go past the splash screen.
I have all the registery edits and openAL of the latest version available on the Ubuntu repository.
I'm been trying WINE versions 1.1.33-35 with different things installed by winetricks in each wineprefix (ie6,dx9,dotnet20,vcrun2005 and sometimes othe...

selinux policy remnant according to /bin/ls on CentOS 6.0 box
I installed CentOS 6.0 on 2 different x86_64 boxen. Both originally had selinux installed and enabled. I never touched selinux other than to remove as much of it as I could via rpm -e. As far as I can tell, here are the remaining packages that have something to do with it:
# rpm -qa | grep -iE 'sel|pol'
checkpolicy-2.0.22-1.el6.x86_64

Reachout 8.42 with Wine on KDE 2 RH 7
Hi,
I am trying to eliminate all remnants of Windows 98 on my system, but for
my job I need to be able to run Reachout 8.42 Enterprise (from the now
defunct Stac). Has anyone tried to run this from Linux with wine? Or are
there any fake RO clients for Linux? Once I get over this hurdle, I can
free up the space on my Win98 partition...

CPUIDLE: Avoid remnant LAPIC timer intr while force hpetbroadcast
LAPIC will stop during C3, and resume to work after exit from C3. Considering below case:
The LAPIC timer was programmed to expire after 1000us, but CPU enter C3 after 100us and exit C3 at 9xxus.

Hi Devang,
The assembly is disassembled from bitcode that I create.
I must be using obsolete remnants of the API. I'm calling
EmitFunctionStart(), EmitStopPoint(), etc. What should I be using?

Oblivion regression exposed by video description patch
I found a regression in Oblivion that results in flickering shadows. It requires the video driver/description patch in order to see it, otherwise shadows don't work at all.Since the patch itself is probably not causing the issue, should I post a bug report?
I believe the issue may be in The Last Remnant as well, but I'm not sure it's the same issue (and it happens very infrequently, unlike in Oblivion)
Here's the regression:

Ext 2/3 overwriting remnant data & use of data blocks - security
Greetings all-
I am conducting security testing on a device that uses Linux 2.4 with ext3. I am testing secure overwrite of remnant data in temporary files, but have run into a real good stumpper in the way Ext allocates data blocks. I've got 10 yrs of *NIX behind me, several with Linux, and this has really got me perplexed as I can't find any documentation explaining the subject enough for me to figure out what's...

Samba AD/DC crashed again, third time in as many months
Hi Rowland,
I'm the guy who had this exact issue in January, you worried extensively
with me to resolve the issue. We ended up building samba from source,
provisioning again (which led to rooting out remnants of the older samba
release), and then you worked with me to help me get samba_backup
implemented.
Here's the output of the command you requested I run:
PATH=/usr/local/samba/bin:/usr/local/samba/sbin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games:/us...

Well, it has been about a year ago, when I installed my servers.
And by then libgnutls-dev had been available without any problem.
Maybe there are some remnants on the system - I frankly don't know.
I will definitely try this on a VM, that is already installed.
(maybe a better idea would be to copy it... it was my first
attempt with KVM, but it seems to work OK). I will keep notes
and report, on how I got it running (or failed to do so).

On what versions of FreeBSD can we unreserve ports?
...erd Ports
A common misfeature found on UN*X operating systems is the
restriction that only root can bind to ports < 1024. Many a
dollar has been wasted on workarounds and -often- the
resulting security holes.
Fortunately on FreeBSD 6.1 (and probably older versions as
well) you can disable this remnant of trust-by-convention.
host$ sysctl net.inet.ip.portrange.reservedhigh=0
That simple. Add it to your /etc/sysctl.conf today!

Dovecot & LDAP Take #2: Authentication failed and logging

have misconfigured something. first of all:
2a.) Is the *passdb* and *userdb* ind the dovecot.conf still needed in the
newest version? It appears to me that all authing runs over the
*10-auth.conf*, *auth-ldap.conf.ext* and *dovecot-ldap.conf.ext *and the
passdb and userdb settings might just be remnants of the past? or am i
wrong here?
2b.) This is my config:

this in .rpm I guess and started appearing after upg to 7.3.
*freeipa* is naming convention Fedora uses, right? Some
remnants rebase did not take care of?

Verifying Good Setup of RoR + PostgreSQL
...help stuff, but I''m stuck. :(
I''ve got RoR installed properly and get the "Welcome aboard! You''re
riding the rails." I have an "article" controller, "article" model, and
both an "article" and "articles" views (one is a remnant, I think, and
no longer needed) (the "article" folder is empty, but "articles"
contains "edit.rhtml" and others). Does that sound workable so far?
I also have a PostgreSQL database set up called MMC, with one table
called articles, with columns of id, title, blurb,...

Joining Samba to Upgraded 2003 domain failing
H Rowland
Thank you for your insight. I have checked over the article and have found
a remnant from the old domain. I think :)
Let's assume the domain is travis.com and the samdom is net.travis.com.
Under this I have a subdomain called _msdcs so I would think this would be
called _msdcs.net.travis.com.
In the RSAT DNS tool I right click and try to delete.
I get "The DNS domain canno...
