[Slightly Off-topic] PXE question
Hello! I am considering proposing my college's staff the usage of PXELinux, to replace the commercial alternative (Rembo). My question is, can PXE boot images be compressed? If so, how? Because a Windows 2000 boot image is already big, but with no compression... it kinda makes it unusable. Thank you for your time and attention! Best regards, sardaukar_siet ===== Uproot your questions from their ground and the...

PXELinux + Altiris + Tivoli.
Hello All. I have few networks with Tivoli Provision Manager (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/tiv/pmfos/?S_TACT=105AGX28&S_CMP=TRIALS ), Altiris (http://www.symantec.com/business/deployment-solution) and WDS (on W2008Stdx32). I successfully expand WDS functionally with pxelinux (4.03).I really like how pxelinux working. Server who respond on client request is on Windows 2008

Syslinux 6.03 released (Ady)
...This sounds interesting. I know PXE and related DHCP options somewhat well. But I don't recognize this. Typically, you add PXE-related options to your DHCP server. Either your main DHCP server, or a proxy DHCP server you stand up. To a lesser extent, some smarter TFTP servers (like Tivoli or Rembo) can parse vendor-encapsulated options. They take different actions according to the option's values. I'm not following how pxelinux parses or has support for DHCP options. What is this proposed feature? PXELINUX v. bpbatch
What is the difference between PXELINUX and bpbatch ? AFAICT, bpbatch doe not require a TFTP server which supports the 'tsize' option. So in the absence of such a server, I may need to explore bpbatch... It seems that bpbatch can be used to remotely boot DOS. Can PXELINUX also do this? -- John

Machine Trust Accounts
Hi, I'm in the process of setting up Samba 2.2.2 as a PDC and the boss has been reasonably impressed with it. An issue that we've come up against is machine trust accounts. Our PC labs (running W2k) are rebuilt nightly or on demand via Rembo. This is done to keep a clean and consistant install on the machines at all times. I suspect that this will cause the trust account relationship (passwording between the client and PDC) to break each time a rebuild happens and no-one will be able to log in. Am I right in this assessment (we haven&...

Roaming profiles and accounts
Hi all, I've managed to install an ubuntu server as PDC, everything is working fine. However, i've got a few questions regarding profile ( M$ XP ) and unix accounts. 1. Roaming profile : I believed that when logging off a computer, user's profile was moved back to the server. But i can still find one. Is there anything to do for the profile not to be stored on pc ? 2. An account

Panics on 4.7 system
...Terry Lambert on -hackers, I've been advised to post this here. I have a 4.7-RELEASE-p10 box that is suffering regular kernel panics. The machine is a Dell 2650 running primarily as a file/print server to a number of computer labs of about 400 machines (although it also functions as a rembo image server and squid proxy). It mainly stores applications, which are run off a samba share and user home directories (again, accessed via samba). It has a largish filesystem (~200G) on a Powervault 220 attached via a PERC3/DC controller (amr) that most of the data is stored on. The OS...
