Adding machine accounts with Ghost
Greetings. Please reference: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-ntdom/2001-September/019783.html That list is listed as "inactive" on the samba site, so I'm following up here. Does anyone know if this functionality was ever achieved? We just replaced out NT4 PDC with samba and I'm facing this exact problem. I do not relish the thought of having to "touch"

Centos-compatible motherboards
Hi all! I'm toying with the idea of spending some Christmas money on a new MB and CPU to upgrade my desktop. Although I've always been partial to AMD chips, I'm tempted this time to find something Intel-ish, I5, quad core, or so. In looking at mommyboards at New Egg and Amazon, I find so many I am unable to make reasonable determinations regarding suitability, so am hoping some of

Evaluating an expression
Hi, I want to create a data frame similar to the following, but greatly scaled up: df <- data.frame(aaa= c("a","b","c"), integer(3), integer(3)) names(df)[2:3] <- paste("var",1:2,sep="") which yields aaa var1 var2 1 a 0 0 2 b 0 0 3 c 0 0 I would not relish having to paste 'integer(3)' 5000 times :(

Account management...newbie question
Hi all, I'm currently in the process of piloting a Samba server for file/print in a Windoze NT network. I'm using Samba 2.0.5 on Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 I've been managing Windows networks for quite a while, but Linux/Samba is new to me. What I want to know is: Other than making my Samba server a domain controller, is there a relatively easy way to import my existing user accounts

Samba 2 PDC upgrade to Samba 3 - group mapping problem
I'm in the process of replacing a Samba 2.2.12 PDC with Samba 3.0.14a-Debian. An LDAP database serves as the user data store, and I've made no changes to the Samba 2.2.x-compatible LDAP records. Since I don't relish LDAP schema changes, I've specified ldapsam_compat as my passdb backend; I figured that since I was already running a compatible LDAP schema, there was no need to make

Horrible Linux/Samba vs Windows political battle - can you help?
Greetings, I am currently the IT Manager for a 30-person architectural firm. About 5 months ago we hired a new employee. He is quite good at what he does. He is also extremely opinionated, particularly when it comes to computer software, including server software. I'm running the office server functions on RedHat, Fedora and Trustix servers. He has managed to convince my boss that there
