Adding machine accounts with Ghost
...mba.org/archive/samba-ntdom/2001-September/019783.html
That list is listed as "inactive" on the samba site, so I'm following up here.
Does anyone know if this functionality was ever achieved? We just
replaced out NT4 PDC with samba and I'm facing this exact problem. I
do not relish the thought of having to "touch" every PC after
Ghosting, nor do I care for the idea of having to muck around with
SysPrep, which seems like so much voodoo and without which I have
lived happily until now.
I'm using Symantec Ghost Console 8.2. Clients are XP Pro SP2.
Thanks,

/lib/firmware/microcode.dat update on CentOS 6
...ey come out reasonably regularly
(2 or 3 times a year) - are RH going to absolve themselves from all
future updates because presumably the next update will also contain the
Spectre fixes?
So, before I re-invent the wheel, does anyone have automation scripts
to do the microcode update? I don't relish the prospect of doing this
manually on a couple of hundred machines. Is it reasonable to grab the
microcode_ctl SRPM and create my own updated RPM to do it?

Centos-compatible motherboards
...mid-range I5 chips cost
over 200 each, that may be a vain hope.)
I expect that the newest ones may work with something bleeding edge
like Fedora (et al), but I like centos for my desktop since it doesn't
have the ridiculous churn rate of the more aggressive distros. I can't
bring myself to relish the thought of rebuilding my main desktop twice
a year (or even once a year).
So, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Evaluating an expression
...to the following, but greatly scaled up:
df <- data.frame(aaa= c("a","b","c"), integer(3), integer(3))
names(df)[2:3] <- paste("var",1:2,sep="")
which yields
aaa var1 var2
1 a 0 0
2 b 0 0
3 c 0 0
I would not relish having to paste 'integer(3)' 5000 times :(
So (I figure) there must be a way to do this programmatically, something akin to
exp1 <- paste(rep("integer(3)",2),collapse=',')
which looks like it might work: "integer(3),integer(3)" , as in the following

Account management...newbie question
...amba is new to
me.
What I want to know is: Other than making my Samba server a domain
controller, is there a relatively easy way to import my existing user
accounts (and administrative groups) from my NT network into my Linux box?
I don't have a huge user base (only 300 or so) but don't relish the thought
of having to create all of those users again, twice if you count smbpasswd.
If possible, I'd like to use something that's either web-based or runs on
the command line so I don't have to install X on the server. I know that
might not be possible, but I thought I'd ask....

Samba 2 PDC upgrade to Samba 3 - group mapping problem
I'm in the process of replacing a Samba 2.2.12 PDC with Samba 3.0.14a-Debian. An LDAP database serves as the user data store, and I've made no changes to the Samba 2.2.x-compatible LDAP records. Since I don't relish LDAP schema changes, I've specified ldapsam_compat as my passdb backend; I figured that since I was already running a compatible LDAP schema, there was no need to make use of the updated, Samba3-compatible LDAP schemas. However, I'm starting to doubt that assumption, because every time I tr...

Horrible Linux/Samba vs Windows political battle - can you help?
....
In any case, I now find myself in the position of having to defend my
position here. My boss has gone as far as to hire an independent
consultant to evaluate our whole network infrastructure, simply on the
basis of the new employee's statemenets about the worthlessness of
Linux. I do not relish being put in this position, however I'm going to
take a stand.
If there is anyone reading this who works in the field of architecture
or engineering, and with CAD or BIM software, who is using Linux as your
server software, I would sure be appreciative it if you could write a
testimonial f...

Direct experience working with deep sequencing data would convey a significant advantage, as would a deep understanding of clinical statistics and their application to genomics data. The successful applicant will relish working at the interface between computing, genomics technology, and clinical and translational science, and will be comfortable in a project-led environment in which multiple projects must be run concurrently to a deadline.
