modestly priced laptop for C7
I'm looking to replace my (old, creaky) netbook (Acer Aspire One D255e,
a screaming dual core 1.6 GHz Atom, and a whole 2 gigs of RAM) with
something faster but not too large. Sometimes (usually) the netbook is
painfully slow.
Something like a hi-res 14 (or 15) inch screen (full HD), minimum of 4 gigs
RAM, HD of a half terabyte or bigger.
I'd like to not have to go over 600-700 dollars,

OT: iBook or MacBook Pro?
Well, the worm has turned and I think I may actually get an Apple ;P.
But I can''t decide which one. Pros and cons:
14" iBook:
+ modem (for when broadband kicks out, or on the road and there''s no
WIFI)
+ screen is probably big enough (though I currently have a 15" Dell)
+ doesn''t get as hot as the MacBook
+ almost half the cost
+ less likely to get stolen

Audio issue(s)
I just bought a new (refurbished) Everexe StepNote laptop with a VIA
C7-M CPU and a VIA chipset, installed CentOS 5.4 on it and the audio
is not working.
I looked around for a sound driver for the VIA vt1708/a, which is what
it claims to have (see below), but that didn't work either.
Any pointers as to what I'm missing?

So you all think VoIP sypply is warm and fuzzy
Here is a letter I sent them for my $150 paper weight.
Dear Voipsupply, As a small service provider, using you company for the
first time, I'm very disappointed that you have removed the
configuration CD that should have been shipped with the Mediatrix 2102
just to get a few more bucks. I have contacted mediatrix and they have
informed me that the CD's is shipped in every 2102. If I

General Samba question
Greetings to all.
I am currently a bit of a newbie in regards using Linux and Samba. I have
worked for several years in the IT/digital divide sector of the nonprofit world
(particularly in regards to utilizing used and refurbished hardware). I am have
a couple of CompTIA certs. (A+ and N+) and some experience administering
Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Anyway to my question....

Premisys Slimline CB
I need to connect a bunch of analog telephone sets. Does anyone have
any comments about this channel bank? Disconnect supervision? Echo?
ADSI problems? The price is right @ $995 new and $695 refurbished.
Thanks,

We're looking to purchase new phones for Asterisk. There are a limited
number of new Polycom 501's on the market, mostly refurbished available.
Can you recommend a replacement phone? What ever model replaced the

Real hardware for opus
So an iPod made in the last 4 years has not even a dsp
that's used for help in low-power playback of mp3?
What are my best options for a portable player I can
put opus on and have 10 hours of opus playback?

Three Identical systems - short cut to setting up the drives?
I am building three identical systems. Well they will have different
host names, and with time the software setups will drift. But at
install time they are identical.
Is there some way, (with dd I might guess) to do a hardare level copy?
All three drives are Hitachi DK23DA-40F (40Gb). Supposedly factory
reconditioned (they are in sealed bags with a drive sticker stating:

Sun Servers with UltraSparc Processors
Hi,
I'm just considering buying two Telecoms grade Sun Netra's to run a
lab-based VoIP solution. Not my immediate thoughts as a VoIP platform,
but from what I've heard, they can run Linux, and run it well.
Only thing is:
The Wiki and the Whitepaper just state that Asterisk is for the x86
architecture, but has been compiled to run on PPC architectures. No
mention of UltraSparc.
