Ticket 46201 - Missing LLVM NOTICE file is making redistributing LLVM difficult
Hello all,
I was asked to bring attention to this LLVM ticket to the mailing list:
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46201 - Missing LLVM NOTICE file
is making redistributing LLVM difficult.
It was recently noted by our legal review in release management that
LLVM third-party licenses are scattered over different files, which
complicates faithful license-preserving redistribution of LLVM to our
users. Having a grouped license declaration of would make building
redis...

About license at redistribution
Hello.
I'd like to ask about license issue.
Now I'm planning to make and sell some measurement system controlled by PC.
There is no technical issue but I don't have enough information about
license.
I will do the following,
1) Install CentOS and my applications on the PC.
2) Sell the PC as a measurement device.
3) Distribute DVD made from CentOS iso image file to the user if

Skype's no-redistribution policy
Hello:
Skype for Linux version 4 has recently been released. An RPM package has
been made, and it's mentioned in the Wiki:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype#head-
a08dbc518378653842007a2eec37bc32e13c0bd0
However, Microsoft claims to prohibit redistribution of Skype
(http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/legal/terms/tou/ , subsection 4.2).
My feeling is that the Wiki shouldn't mention this RPM, but I thought I
shouldn't simply delete this part of the Wiki before asking here.

[LLVMdev] Licensing requirements
...d binaries,
only the runtime library components, so that the compiled binaries are
not derived from LLVM. Is that true?
The runtime library components state that they are licensed under
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php which does not
contain a specific clause regarding binary redistribution. This seems to
have been interpreted as not placing any restrictions on binary
redistribution, i.e. that "all copies" has somehow been interpreted as
"copies in source code form". (Different licenses such as Boost, zlib,
and bzip2 etc. do not require copyright notices for...

Binary packagers: BSD license issues
Adding this SHA256 code made me read the BSD license once again. It
says:
* 2. Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright
* notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer in the
* documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution.
Then there are a few files from Cyrus as well which contain:

Confusion over xiph.org license
...reeware/shareware games
=our games are released without code and can NOT be
modified or have projects based on it.
=would like to use Speex functions (library) within
the game for some vocal sound effects, it would
basically be a part of the EXE itself.
Under the Xiph.org license, it states:
"Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the
above copyright notice, this list of conditions and
the following disclaimer in the documentation and/or
other materials provided with the distribution."
Does my use of Speex qualify as "redistribution in
binary form"? The reason I ask is becaus...

About license at redistribution
Hi,
at first I'm not part of the CentOS Project nor I'm a lawyer.
But may I can answer your questions.
According to the CentOS About page "CentOS Linux is no-cost and free to
redistribute." [1]. So as you are planning to redistribute it should be
fine to do. While redistributing you also need to consider the legal
section [2]. However as you are planning a business you should involve
a lawyer to make it clear to you in your special legal situation!
To your second question: Ye...

redistributing the win32-dlls - commercial license?
hi there,
i'm new to vorbis (this list and the spec) - and i'm pretty new to
audio-programming in general.
i have a question consurning the license of the win32-dlls i get when
downloading the vorbis-win32-sdk:
am i allowed to redistribute these libraries with a commercial program?
i want our application to be able to save .ogg instead of .wav but it's an
application that customers need to pay for. it's not the main function of our
program, it would just be a little "nice-to-have" feature.
i've found this &qu...

netscape to become freely redistributable
I presume by now that most everyone has heard that, starting later
this quarter with Netscape 5.0's developers' release, the Netscape
browser program and its source code will become freely
redistributable. They didn't say it would be GPL'd (GNU Public
License) but they said their source code would be available in the
spirit of the GPL.
Initially it bothered me that the start.help() function in R tried to
find netscape on your system and started that to read the .html files.
I thought i...

Is there a way to _remove_ dependencies from an RPM built from source?
I'm building my own openmpi packages derived from upstream SRPMs.
Problem: The ones built with Intel's compiler can only be installed by
force, because Intel doesn't register their provided libs with rpm.
Any idea how this can be done?
(Alternative ideas are appreciated as well -- as long as they don't read
as: make Intel fix this.)
