Solving problems with read.fwf(), perl under WinNT (was: Re: Using metric scaling)
Some days ago a problem with perl under WinNT was reported, which lead to > > t1 <- read.fwf("d:/maj/consulting/MarkStevens/matrix.txt", width=c(4, 22, > rep(7, 8))) > Error: "scan" can't open file I installed perl from the WindowsNt Recource Kit CD (Sept. 98) and encountered the same problem: Scan couldn't open the file - because perl did not produce it - because perl could not find it's library files - because the installation procedure did not copy the library files to my HD - and instead created registry entries pointing t...

Abbreviated citation of R?
...seems, journals are setting strict limits to the number of references in scientific papers. These requirements by editors wanting to maximize the number of published articles in a limited space may be understandable, but they make it difficult for authors to pay due credit to the papers and other recources on which the article in question is based. A solution that is used to some extent for e. g. software and measurement instruments is a shortened, 'inline' citation (see examples above) without a corresponding item in the list of references at the end of the article. The possibility for a...

CELT question
...ec in an embedded solution. For the embedded solution, the processor speed is of great importance. In the documentation (the presentation of Dr. Jean-Marc Valin, Gregory Maxwell and Dr. Timothy B. Terriberry) the CELT LC (low complexity) mode is mentionned. The LC mode should use half the memory recources and half the MIPS. My question is how to tell the CELT library to use the low complexity mode. Should I use the "celt_encoder_ctl(enc,CELT_SET_COMPLEXITY(complexity))" function and set the complexity to zero, or is there also a compile time define which I should use? I use the CEL...

...nd/or conditional execution (as described in "An Introduction to R") is necessary to build such function. It's a shame of me but I cannot understand the idea of "for", "while" and "repeat" after reading few pages of Introduction. I need more readable recources for dummies. Could you help me, pleaase? Re: Is Wine64 usable yet?
Hmm.. is this "update.exe" problem same which is happening with ie7 in32-bit (needs some cat file copied somewhere to run)? With wow64 build I have been testing to install SolidWorks 2009-2011 x64 and most of the times installer tries by default install the app to "Program Files (x86)"-folder, sometimes it gets correct program files folder, usually not. Installer fails on

What kind of system works best?
If any of you recall, I sent a message before regarding issues with a 100 client-based Samba server. After speaking with the company I'm working with and showing them some of the replies, they are enthusiastic about the system, and we're all looking forward to seeing it working. Thank you for all your replies and for your help. There were quite a few replies, and I can't get a
