Hardphone SIP phone costs
I'm trying to understand something that just doesn't seem to compute. How can companies like Cisco justify selling their hard phones for as much as they do? I know there is a matter of recouping R&D costs but when you look at the iPhone with all its amazing features for less than $500.00 it just doesn't make sense. Am I the only one that thinks this? ...nimal (at a complete guess three or less) and out of those the number that would require a change to the tool set would likely average out to be less than one per point release. In a worst-case scenario it might save a day or two on a particularly nasty point release, and this would easily be recouped in the amount of time it would save if the CentOS team did not have to maintain Stream at all. Now these are just semi-educated guesses and I don't have the experience to justify this so I'm happy to consider real numbers that prove me wrong. Peter

...ping. My house, office, lab and 2 vehicles back in Chalmette, LA, St Bernard Parish are swimming with the fishes, snakes and alligators along with all my computers and Asterisk application development. 100% loss, but hey, we have our health. I have both homeowners and flood insurance so I should recoup most of my losses, it will take a while to get back on track. Insurance adjusters will not be able to enter the Parish till the water is out which could take several weeks if not a few months. I was planning on speaking at this years Astricon conference in Anaheim, CA on ?Embedded Asterisk System...

I need to create new variables based on two numeric variables and one dichotomize conditional category variables.
...s is an interesting twist I had not considered. Yes, you can specify what integer a factor uses to represent things but not what I meant. Of course your trick does not work for some other forms of data like real numbers in double format. There is a cost to converting a column to a factor that is recouped best if it speeds things up multiple times. The point I was making was that when you will be using group_by, especially if done many times, it might speed things up if the column is already a normal factor, perhaps just indexed from 1 onward. My guess is that underneath the covers, some program...

[RFC] Compiled regression tests.
...I'm pretty change averse - and am in this case (but doesn't mean other folks won't be in favor and doesn't mean it isn't worth trying, etc - but if it were up to me, at the moment, I'd decline) That's understandable. New features also come with a cost that they need to recoup with their usefulness. > To take one point from the phab review (to try to keep the discussion here rather than there - might be worth a note on the phab review to discourage commenting there so the discussion doesn't get spread through different threads): I added a remark to the Phabrict...

ISDN Cards available in Australia
Hi, I'm after some ISDN card resellers in Australia. I've noticed the AVM cards should work well here, however I've found the reseller here has no website, is listed in Yellow pages as management consultants (??) and when I called quoted almost $400. Does anyone know where I can get the AVMs in Australia a bit cheaper or another card (not the Netjet) that works with Asterisk.

...rs are...you gotta make money to offset your operational costs. Terrestrial broadcasters do it by buying up large numbers of stations and selling Ad time to large numbers of listeners. They have other methods as well, but I think that one is pretty much the largest. Internet broadcasters can recoup some of their costs by offering services unique to internet broadcasting. Digitally Imported is a good case of a major broadcaster re-couping costs by offering a "premium service" which listeners pay for. And Digitally Imported also uses the technique of combining stations into a si...

Asterisk with Ericsson MD110 PBX
I was just wondering if someone has experiences to use Asterisk in an existing Ericsson MD110 environment. Particulary I'd like to know if it is possible to use the MD110's system phones directly connected to Asterisk. I'm not very familiar with it but would it be possible to use ADSI with these phones? Are they more like analog or more like digital phones or is the protocol even more

Hi Oddsock, Like Clement, I am sure Nullsoft is still "offering" AOL's bandwidth since I think Nullsoft is not part of AOL anymore. About the new broadcasting methods, is the multicast technology already available? I have heard only few providers are equipped with multicast enabled routers. What about p2p streaming, is it really reliable? When I see Peercast's statistics, only

I need to create new variables based on two numeric variables and one dichotomize conditional category variables.
I might have factored the gender. I'm not sure it would in any way be quicker. But might be to some extent easier to develop variations of. And is sort of what factors should be doing... # make dummy data gender <- c("Male", "Female", "Male", "Female") WC <- c(70,60,75,65) TG <- c(0.9, 1.1, 1.2, 1.0) myDf <- data.frame( gender, WC, TG ) #

Drivers for FORE systems cards under FreeBSD
I had originally mentioned this only to 2 people, which was Jordan K. Hubbard and Paul Henning-Kemp, but since I have received a lot of queries on this, I thought I might as well post it on the FreeBSD announce groups. Included below is a posting done on the Linux-atm mailing group, by Pragnesh Sampat. I have just adapted for FreeBSD. RV -------------------------- Announcement

[Zaptel] Why no driver for PCI voice modems?
Hello Considering how cheap PCI modems are compared to even the cheapest PCI hardware from Digium, OpenVox, Sangoma, etc.... I was wondering why Zaptel can't be used with those to connect an Asterisk server to a POTS line for low-level use? It just seems overkill for SOHO users who only get a few calls a day. Is it because those modems are usually Windows-specific, and it would be too

cameraa rotation graphics
Dear all, Is there a camera rotation for 3d graphics in R. I have seen it in a conference one time and thought it is pretty neat. the presenter was able to rotate the 3d graph with dragging the mouse up down left right. If not in R is there something that is open source that does this. Thank you Jean Eid

HELP - My Programmers are AWOL !!
I hired a friend of a friend to build my company a fairly substantial application. He quoted it, committed to it, and now says he has run out of money. I''ve offered him additional money/incentives ...twice. He continues to commit, and then, ultimately not make his commitment. I''m not sure what my options are. Ideally, I would like to simply fire him and hire someone to
