best ISDN BRI solution for DID
I want to test asterisk with its DID functions on a smaller scale without the expense of a PRI. I am in the US, and want the most reliable/stable, and feature rich solution that I can have. What ISDN card would be reccommended? My clec switch operator says he can/will send DID info to my BRI's if I wish. Can Asterisk, or one of its addons support this? What BRI solution would be reccommended? ISDN4Linux, chan_capi? Any info is appreciated, I hope to get this right the first time without having to buy more ha...

Hardware for PBX with 4 incoming/outgoing lines and 20 phones
...g that an FXO card is used to interface with an incoming/outgoing phone line, and an FXS card is used for interfacing with a phone within the system. Currently we have 4 incoming/outgoing phone lines and would like to have 20 phones in the system. In order to accomodate this, would you either reccommend having 1 TDM04B (4 FXO modules on it) for the 4 incoming/outgoing lines, and 5 TDM40B (4 FXS modules on each) for the 20 phones we would have in the system. Or would you reccommend 1 TDM04B for the 4 incoming/outgoing lines, and a T100P connected to a channel bank of some sort to connect to th...

Transferring system to new RAID drive
...of=/dev/sdb bs=16384' in middle of night offline. I did that in past because 'smartctl -a /dev/sda' did not work on the old drive. Is there a way to copy it to a hardware RAID 1 array of two drives in a similiar way? If so what not too expensive 2 port hardware raid controller do you reccommend and how do you do it? Thanks. Matt

version control or symbolic links
Hi, Ive deployed a rails application and am looking for ways to have some kind of version control. Ive read about symlinks in the rails book and reccommends changing the app folder to releases/rel25 or 24 etc.. This sound good, but how can I go about telling rails where it can find the code? thanks scott -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Mine strangest asterisk problem ever ....
Hi there, I'm going mad at this: Asterisk with one HFC isdn card, using the zaptel driver "bristuff" All works ok, but voice coming in/out of the isdn card is out of sync, squelky and disrupted, UNTIL I PUT SOME LOAD TO THE PC, let say launching xwindows. I noticed this: Strong HDD activity = voice is good HDD doing nothing = voice is not good I suppose this could be an

Differentiating Video from Audio
I am trying to write a "thumbnailer" for the thunar file manager that can process .ogg files containing a video stream and produce a thumbnail of a particular frame. The only trouble is telling which files have a video stream in an efficient method. The best I've come up with is running ogginfo on every file with the mimetype application/ogg. Is there a better method? I know

XFS : Taking the plunge
...have a bug leading to strange problems if you mount without inode64 again. For example, you can't access files & dirs that have been created with an inode >32bit anymore."" I also noted that "xfs_check" ran out of memory and so after some reading noted that it is reccommended to use "xfs_repair -n -vv" instead as it uses far less memory. One remark is so why is "xfs_check" there at all? I do have the option of moving the data elsewhere and rebuilding but this would cause some problems. Any advice much appreciated. Steve

help on tapply using sample with differing sample-sizes
...es not currently work with a vector. Does any one have any suggestions as to how to get around this or if this is not possible, if there is another way to accomplish what I want to do. Perhaps, tapply is not the best way to go about getting what I want. if so what would all you strong programmers reccommend instead. I am thinking that perhaps loops may be the only way to go. raoboot <- function (datavar, statavar, weight, nboot, ciqntl, ciqntu) { i <- 1 sdatavar <- sort(datavar) sstratavar <- sort(statavar) sweight <- sort(weight) sdatavarwght <- sdatavar*sweight # stramn <-...

Samba AD/DC crashed again, third time in as many months

Can I simply rename the offending files and reboot? To be absolutely sure to have about a clean and non-corrupt system, I'd reccommend to reinstall on a CLEAN os, without manually renaming/removing files. Just install whatever OS you use, like and know on a empty fresh machine (I DO like mdadm raid1, and have only good experiences with it, contrary to Rowland) One tip: don't use btrfs for your AD server, use ext4, or xfs....

debugging functions within Emacs/ESS/R
Hi, I currently following some introductory material "Data mining with R", which was highly reccommended to me (its really great!). During my studies I tried to run a given function to identify and substitute unknown values. Seemingly, running this function (page 57) did not work and gives me an error message. It would be very easy just to copy and paste this function to ask for help on this li...

SIP_CODEC, reinvites, and changing codecs
...t found any clear answers. I've also seen the SIP_CODEC variable, but it's not clear that it will change the codec on an existing call. Also, there are mentions of needing a reinvite to make the change, but most of the sample sip.conf contexts I've used for setting up our sip channels reccommend "canreinvite=no". Does that preclude any change I might've had in changing codecs? Basically, what I have is polycom phones with 729 licenses and access to the VoIP provider which can do 729. Native bridging will not consume licenses, but accessing VM on either side will. Same wit...

An Enhancement
...rted (e.g. after FSD). I am currently using upsrw in a startup script to set the above variables. This works fine, except that it requires -u and -p in the commandline, which I don't like to do, because I think scripts are notoriously difficult to make non-readable. I wonder what might be a reccommended enhancement to allow setting of UPS variables at initialization. One place to do this might be in the driver (actually main.c), based on device specific information in ups.conf. A second place might be in upsmon, which is already capable of doing most of these things. A third possibility I can t...

...=> FSD OB DISCHRG LB followed by proper shutdown In other words, as far as I can see everything works as expected. Also, "load.off" indeed shuts the load on my APC/Back-UPS ES 650 instantaneously (not that I intended to test that!). BTW, I usually do the same types of builds that you reccommended, just from time to time I go back to a clean slate, and today was unfortunately one of those times! And no, the fix for the al175.c compile problem hasn't reached the development tree yet! Hope this helps, AG -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A...

rsync-ing on MacOS X.
Hi all, I'm setting up a backup script for my Mac, and I'm wondering about the rsync ability of dealing with HFS+ filesystem (resource-fork and such...). I've searched the mailing list archive for this topic and I've found some thread regarding it, but it's not clear to me what is the actual situation. Is the HFS+ officially supported? Will it be in the near future?

Samba 2.2.5 with Filemaker Pro 5.5 Databases
Hi, I am new to this list but I have tried to search for answers to this one. Ever since we moved the *.fp5 files off a windows 2000 server and onto samba filemaker is now 20% the speed it was before. It was happening with samba 2.2.3a and I have just recently upgraded to 2.2.5 and it didn't fix the problem. I suspect it's a locking issue and the speed of getting locks on the files.
