Final comment from a newbie
As a person new to R, I joined the list. I am a long-term member of the Stata list, which has a tradition of being very helpful to newbies. Imagine my surprise when my first day's mail included a rough rebuke to someone for asking a simple question (including mentioning that the poster had been reprimanded about this sort of thing before). In the week I've been on it, there have been questions I could not understand, struggling as I am with the basics of R syntax, which were answered, and ques...

Final comment from a newbie_and another
I wholeheartedly agree. Maybe in time the list will divide into two whereby 'apparantly' simple questions will be answered without a curt rebuke! I too am now signing off the list and will bury my head in a manual ot two. As a last comment; everyone has to start the learning process somewhere and lets face it, with a deadline looming and what appears to be an insurmaountable question wouldn't anyone ask for help? Signing off now.........

[LLVMdev] Can I use Clang to parse snippets of C++ code?

Assignment in environment
Dear all, I have a function "fn" with its own environment, i.e. env <- environment(fn) and env is not .GlobalEnv. And another function getValue <- function(x) environment(x)$mylist which returns the list object "mylist" which is in "env". If I want to modify "mylist", I could write 'getValue<-' <- function(x, value) {

Root access over ssh?
Is it possible to configure rsync in server mode, to gain access to root protected files, without the user having to log in as root through ssh? I'd prefer to login as a regular user through ssh and access an rysnc server on the host that's running as root. As far as I can tell, however, that's not possible...am I wrong?

[LLVMdev] Can I use Clang to parse snippets of C++ code?
Hello guys, I'd like to use Clang to parse snippets of (and emit bytecode for) C++ code that come from larger files that don't contain only C++, but looking at the clang interpreter example, either I didn't get it, or it looks like the driver expects only files, and not strings or char buffers. Is there a simple way to achieve this? Do I have to split my input into small files and

ADS and samba domain member: ads_connect: Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requ
Thanks, Unfortunately, I still got the same error. I may be wrong, but it is like it does the automatic lookup process of kdc instead of using the krb5.conf file. However, as per my note below, if I do add bad config info to the krb5.conf, it does complain. OT: programming language for morons (newbie friendly language in Open Source world)
Hi folks I have more than 12 years experience with UNIX system administration, but I am too stupid for programming. My only programming experience is shell scripting. I tried to learn Java, but don't understand it because it is too complicated for my limited brainpower. What programming language should I learn? A friend said that C-Sharp (Mono) is very simple. Is this true? cheers Sven
