Thanks to Illiminable, we have a set of Directshow filters which seem to work well for Windows Media Player. Our last big concern is Realplayer and I have to admit to a bit of confusion here. I don't use Windows, but the station manager has Realplayer 10.5 which is apparently pretty recent and apparently is powered by Helix technology or whatever it is it says. But it doesn't want to play our stream, or any local Vorbis files....

Interesting. I downloaded and installed both HelixPlayer-0.4.0.187-20040615.i586.rpm and RealPlayer-0.4.0.186-20040615.i586.rpm on my Mandrake 10.0 system. With hxplay, the theora sample video, Mixtape.small.ogg, played as well as it does with mplayer 1.0pre4, which is reasonably well. You should ook around in Realplayer's configuration setting. The problem is probably that you as a user, installed Realplayer, and clicked yes every time without looking through what it was going to do.
