Indexing files
Hi all,
I would like to start replacing the realmedia content on a clients web site with the Ogg format. The client (a national tv/radio station) publishes alot of content and have integrated their CMS with the Realmedia system in order to index multimedia with story lines. Eg the following link would be published inside a RAM file to point to the sta...

OT: Latest Linux Real player
Hi:
I know this is off-topic, but figured someone here would know, particularly
given Xiph's involvement in Helix.
Up till now I've used TRplayer <http://linux-speakup.org/trplayer.html> to
play Realmedia content. This is because, as a Blind person, I've no need
or desire for X11, and TRplayer uses the Realplayer libs without all that X
overhead. but now I would like to play a stream that needs Realplayer 10,
or at least seems to need it.
The stream I tried to play, which is one of many clips...

No, they do it using RTSP methods, which inherantly contain the correct
"time" for the frame. By requesting a specific "time", you get a the
frames that correspong, thus you can seek without relying on client side
buffering. Note that not all QuickTime or RealMedia files are served by
proper streaming servers. You need two things for server side
seeking.... a seekable source, and a seek-aware protocol. If all you
want to do is get the file to the client, HTTP works just fine. And
while the file, when it arrives, will be seekable, HTTP doesn't

Can anybody tell me what that number represents? (In the example above,
it's 3392.)
Also, if anybody has pointers on Awstats+Icecast2, I'd love to hear

Helix into Icecast2 loopback
Hello.
I've made some progress on the issue. I found a tool called TrPlayer which
is a text mode front end for real player - initially developed for the use
of the visually impaired. The theory is that I can use this and pipe the
live stream into vsound which then in turn is passed into ices or another
source client. Trouble is, I'm having all sorts of trouble compiling
Trplayer on the

Swfdec and Ffmpeg only
...sh videos to play the video, no sound.
However, I don't want Gstreamer, it's too big. Ffmpeg alone has become
extremely capable. The 'ffplay' utility (in Ffmpeg, uses SDL) plays
almost all my video and audio files. Not quite: using Ffmpeg from svn
December 29, 2009, I found that my RealMedia videos played only video
no sound -- ffmpeg has the required 'sipr' audio decoder but it
doesn't work. They are almost there, ffplay plays everything else.
Unfortunately, direct linking with Ffmpeg was dropped from Swfdec
after version 0.6.8, so I went back to that version, and

Ices2 compile error - streaming ogg!
Still trying to stream ogg and have not gotten past a make error in
ices2. We www.freespeech.org are an independent media / news
site so it would be nice to get this running
and support this new format. I'd love to convert all of our 700
streaming video files from from realmedia as well but thats another
story!
Perhaps this is not the correct forum but it seems like there
are a lot of people unsucessfully tying to get this working? Took me
days to find out that I needed icecast 2 to stream ogg! How about
some better docs ? (Yes I know he who has vision has the job!)

Who said Icecast2 is a replacement? -2 can do most things -1 can do, so
maybe -2's different features are better for you? Use -2 then. It isn't?
Use -1. Or Shoutcast. Or Realmedia's Helix. Or whatever else there is.

So what you're effectively wanting to do is transcode a realmedia stream

icecast2
Hi,
I believe I have found another small problem. When a stream finishes, say
using the libshout example code, icecast seems to go into a loop at lock
at 100% CPU. This seems to be coming from the connenction select area. Any
ideas?
Also there were rumors around a while back that icecast2 would support
rtsp and possibly real. Is there any strength in these rumors?
Tim.

Encoding or Playback problem?
Hi all,
Have trouble encoding / playing back OGG using WinAmp + plugin. I encoded
the files from .WAV with Ogg drop RC2. Seems to be ok. When I try and play
them back though I get very very weird sound effects (some kind of
"wobbling", some bass frequencies that are usually in the background seem to
get more emphasised and they seem to have some kind of strange echo / reverb
to it
