Samba printserver works for Win10 Pro but not Win10 Home edition
...can add the shared printers in a Windows 10 Pro client, without any hassle. When I try the same in any Win 10 Home edition, I get Windows error messages like "error 0x000006d1" and likewise. This could possibly be fixed on each individual PC with a registry fix like this: http://blog.realcomputerguy.com/2013/06/fix-error-0x000006d1-using-level-3.html. The problem is, that we can not make such a demand to pupils on a school that brings their own device. I believe there must be a permission problem somewhere in my smb.conf, even if guests are allowed, permissions are set to 777 in all releva...

Samba & CUPS: only banner-page gets printed
In my setup I'm running Samba 3.0.23d-19.2 and CUPS 1.2.7-12.1. Printing from a windows-client works fine, until I instruct CUPS to add a banner-page. The banner-page then is the only thing that gets printed. Doing the same from Linux everything works fine. I get my job including a banner-page. The Windows-printjob is passed raw from Samba to CUPS... Anyone has an idea? Best, Johannes

Standalone Server with Wins -- Password Not Required on Win/XP
Hi There, I created a standalone server on CentOS 5.1 with samba at 25b on an x86_64 system. The shares defined below are available to the windows xp clients on the 10.43.10.x/24 subnet. Samba also provides win server support to this subnet. We are having problems we password protection associated with the shares. The first access to the samba server requests a userid -- this likely allows

Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly
Hi everyone, new to the list. My apologies if this issue has already been covered, but I am having the following problem with Samba: Using Windows XP as a client, I am trying to see a Solaris system as a server. Solaris is running Samba 2.4.2, and Windows 2000 sees it as a server without any problems. Windows XP, however, generates the error "The network name is no longer

lpresume vs queueresume
What are the recommended uses of lpresume vs. queueresume or lppause vs. queuepause? Should one set be favored over the other in some circumstances? What exactly are the differences in the lp set vs. the queue set? Should both sets be used? Do any of them get called successfully from a Windows client? Thanks. Chris -- 'Nix MS - Just Say .NyET

exchange server and amba 3 integration
Hi, The decision has been made to use Exchange 2K server despite my efforts in suggesting Cyrus Imap with Sendmail. Has any one used or have suggestions on using an Exchange 2K Mail server with Samba 3 as the "only" PDC? My ?s; 1) Is the 2K Exchange Server integration as simple as having a 2K machine joining a Samba PDC? 2) I use smbpasswd as a backend as I am migrating from

Samba 3 and Windows 8 Point'n'Print drivers
Hi list, To my best knowledge samba 3 does not support level 4 drivers used by Windows 8 for Point'n'Print (If that is not the case could you let me know the minimal version of samba required?) According to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/hh852373.aspx Windows 8 should be able to use level 3 drivers, but it does not seem to work for me. Are they any

smbmount discontinued?
In a past thread I've notice that smbmount (and mount's suport for it) will be discontinued and smbclient should be used insted. Sorry if the question is too lame but I use it in some of my systems now and I think I'll have trouble porting then to smbclient. Is smbmount been removed because it relays on kernel smb support? Samba will not need smb support in kernel in the

Access to a share resource without password
Dear, I have a Linux Samba server and a Windows XP SP2 client joined to the "g-company.net" domain. I want to access a Linux share resource in /var/share without password from WXP desktop FROM ANY USER. This is my scenario: - I don't create any Linux local user because I want total access from any user - I use security = share - My smbusers file is: root = administrator admin

net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" ... succeeds but fails
After reading through the documentation, I realized that as a part of the migration process from Samba-2.2.X to Samba-3.0.0 I needed to convert everyone in my smbadmin group (previously domain admin group = @smbadmin) to the "Domain Admins" group w/rid=512. So, I issued the following command: [root@localhost profile]# net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins"

Windows 8.1 64-bit printer sharing issue
Hello, We have setup a Samba 4.1.0 server that has worked great so far. We have a printer share that is set up so that our users access the printers around the office directly via a central location. It is setup so that the users' computers can get the driver directly from the print server. We use CUPS to manage the printers. It is deployed via GPO. It works great for Windows 7 32-bit and

Windows 7 64-bit drivers / cupsaddsmb
I'm getting ready to migrate my office of 50+ Windows XP machines to Windows 7, in a mix of 64-bit and 32-bit clients. I've setup a new samba server on a separate domain to prepare and test for this transition. I've gotten everything to work so far except for printing, and I'm at a loss on how to proceed. It appears to me as if adding the printer drivers in the usual way,
