KMail
Any hope of KMail (and Kontact) coming to CentOS-7? What exactly is the problem? KMail seems to work on other Linux OS's. -- Timothy Murphy gayleard /at/ eircom.net School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin

Addind kmail to EPEL
I finally decided to move from CentOS 6 to CentOS 7, but was surprised to see that kmail is no longer included: Red Hat deliberately decided to omit it. How can I ask that kmail be added to EPEL? The information on EPEL's site basically says to submit it myself, but that's above my capabilities. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

...ll: /bin/false to the users and don't wish to give access. Don't know if it is the right way, but it solves my problems. Mostly better: new C7
Well, I gave up, and reinstalled C7. This time, I realized I needed to make a software choice before the install, and did so. My install, yesterday, was a minimal. Silly me, yesterday, after that, I did a groupinstall of KDE Plasma Workspaces... and it did *NOT* include all the dependencies to run KDE. Having installed a KDE desktop, much is better... with one exception: I can't seem to

konqueror vs. centos and mathematics
I'm running centos 7. Firefox spends so much time in th D state that I am trying konqueror. Displaying mathematics on wikipedia, e.g. Remez algorithm seems to be a no go. Wikipedia seems to use tex, so I installed texlive and texlive-* . Firefox hadn't needed it and it did not seem to help konqueror. My guess is that there is a bit somewhere that I need to flip, but I have no idea where it

dual boot linux/winxp, winbind
We have a bunch of dual-boot boxes (linux/winxp). I'd like to be able to use winbind (against ads) for user authentication on the linux side, but it appears samba has to join the AD too. Upon joining the AD under linux/samba, it makes the windows side of things stop working (machine account has been modified). In the past, when using an NT4 domain, I was able to tell samba to use a

Samba 3.0.20b - still getting "Winbind Dead but subsys locked"
I can remove the /var/locl/subsys/winbindd file to clear the subsys locked message but this does not chnage the winbind crash problem. I originally noticed this problem on 20a and thought that 20b had a fix for the winbind crash. Any clues? I am running RH ES 4.0 64 bit with samba packages downlaoded from enterprisesamba.com. PC

samba(-3.0.10) + Excel(2003), file locking issue?
Using samba-3.0.10(*) on RedHat Enterprise 3, and client WinXP boxes with Office 2003. All servers and clients have synchronized clocks (ntp). I open an excel file from a samba share, modify it, the *first* (and only first) time I save, Excel says: The file 'foo.xls' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want: O Save a copy O

Username DOMAIN\SAMBA_CLIENT1$ is invalid...
I'm seeing a lot of: [2005/05/16 08:35:46, 1] smbd/sesssetup.c:reply_spnego_kerberos(250) Username DOMAIN\SAMBA_CLIENT1$ is invalid on this system in the logs on my samba server after joining our ad DOMAIN, and accessing from SAMBA_CLIENT1 (also a member of the ad DOMAIN). Otherwise, it appears to be functioning well. Is this something to be worried about? -- Rex

Testing domain group membership
Is there a samba command (using net, wbinfo, or whatever) to allow one to test whether a user is a member of a particular (domain) group? I know that $ net user info returns the groups that a user is a (direct) member of, but for my immediate purposes, that is not sufficient (we're using nested groups). I also know that ntlm_auth has the --require-membership-of=STRING option, but it also

Here's one that's got me baffled. guest share not working (for Disabled accounts)
I'm in an AD environment, with a samba server a member of the domain, and I'm trying to create a guest-level/read-only share accesssible by *anyone*. The purpose of this share is a network distribution point for .msi package deployment via AD Group Policy. My relevant smb.conf bits are: [global] guest account = nobody map to guest = Bad User [deploy] [msi] comment =

net ads join fails 3/4's of the time
I just wanted to share my frustrations with trying to use samba to join linux machines to our AD (so I could use pam_winbind primarily). I'm using Red Hat Enterprise 4 boxes, with samba-3.0.14a, krb5-libs-1.3.4-12, kernel-2.6.9-5.0.5.EL (I tried Fedora Core 3 too, with similar results). I (pre)added machines to the AD using the Active Directory Users and Computers tool. I initially had

samba-3.0.23a, get_dc_list failures
Tried upgrading a couple of working samba-3.0.22 boxes that are currently members of our ads domain to samba-3.0.23a. Before the upgrade: $ kinit foo@BAR.com $ net ads testjoin $ net ads join works fine. After the upgrade $ net ads testjoin $ net ads join both hang. So I tried $ net ads testjoin -d4 and found that it returns: [2006/07/24 10:12:27, 4] libsmb/namequery.c:get_dc_list(1502)
