Very slow samba performance on Centos 6
Hello all,
I have 2 identical Dell r510 servers with 10gig card, running centos 6 with
samba-3.5.4-68.el6_0.2.x86_64.
I setup 16G ramdisk samba share on both and ran cp from local ramdisk to
samba ramdisk mount.
If I cp 12 1-gig files, I get combined 100MB/s transfer rate. Single file cp
maxes out at about 15MB/s.
Ftp transfer give me over 300MB/s.
Running with 9000 MTU. Most smb.conf is

booting domU with multiple concatenated ramdisks?
Hi!
Some bootloaders (eg. syslinux) have to ability to load multiple
ramdisks, effectively concatenating them. This makes it very easy
to augment ramdisks, like eg. customizing an installer. Can I do
something similar with XEN? Separating the ramdisk cpio arhives with
commas in the config file didn''t work...

pb with 2.5.x and ramdisk?
Hello,
I have a problem with a 2.5.62 kernel and ramdisk. I am using isolinux
to create a cd that loads some of its partition in ramdisk. The script
involves mounting a ramdisk (e2fs) on /fake/ramdisk, copying part of the
cd to that mount point, unmounting it, and remounting it on
/fake/needwrite. The problem is that, although the content of
/fake/needwrite gets correctly copied, the content of

INITRD > MEMSIZE / 2
I?ve got a 512M machine and a 330M ( uncompressed ) initrd image. How can I
mount the ramdisk? Normal booting seems to want to copy the entire initrd
image into a Ramdisk, thus requiring 2X the memory. So what happens is the
kernel boots correctly and I get,
RAMDISK: ext2 filesystem found at block 0
RAMDISK: Loading 330000 blocks [ 1 disk ] into ram disk

File access in Apache 2.4 (clarification)
Folks
I'm having file-access problems in Apache 2.4 under Centos 7. In particular:
- I have a file that's readable to every user and every application,
(writeable by only one user), but my CGI scripts cannot read it.
- Some of my CGI scripts need temporary storage for some files. They
are, for example, some internal log files, tnat get cleaned up over
time, but I want to be able to

MEMDISK reset computer with NW Client32
Hi!
I have problem with MEMDISK, because when I load modules in NW Client32
using NIOS.EXE commands, computer is restarted :-( Not everytime, but
manytimes.
The problem is with MSDOS 5.0, 6.22 and FreeDOS too.
But when I create in DOS another RAMDISK and copy all data from MEMDISK
to new RAMDISK and change settings and PATH to new ramdisk, all work fine.
Directly from floppy or from

TFTP & Network after booting kernel
...to make our own NFSroot via PXELINUX without the e1000
ethernet module compiled into the kernel. All works fine, we have a ramdisk
that can setup networking from information provided by $ip, however I would
like to download the specific e1000.o via tftp before inserting it into to
the kernel. Since ramdisks are static I rather not have the situation where
we have to recreate the ramdisk everytime we install a new kernel. So the
question is: can I download via tftp the Ethernet module using the same or
similar mechanism provided in PXE while being in the ramdisk? We use busybox
in our ramdisk, so we ha...

pxelinux 2.11 unable to mount root fs
Hi,
I've been using PxeLinux to boot our Debian kernel successfully for
some time now. I recently increased the size of the ramdisk from about
484 MBs to 517 MBs and encountered the following error during bootup:

RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
Freeing initrd memory: 105519k

RAMDisk vs Extarnal server for recording
I'm having loads of problems with recordings, as in crappy audio quality and
lost pieces of the recordings. I've been searching for a solution and the
solutions i find on the interwebs include a ramdisk, for local recording, or
another machine, handling the recording. I guess the ramdisk would be the
"easy" solution and the external machine would be little harder to set up.
I do

LVM mirror database to ramdisk
I'm still running CentOS 5 with Xen.
We recently replaced a virtual host system board with an Intel
S1400FP4, so the host went from a 4 core Xeon with 32G RAM to a 6 core
Xeon with 48G RAM, max 96G. The drives are SSD.
I was recently asked to move an InterBase server from Windows 7 to
Windows Server. The database is 30G.
I'm speculating that if I put the database on a 35G

Question concerning booting from Floppy Drive
First I'd like to thank you, and everyone who has contributed to the
isolinux development. It has been the solution to many of my development
needs.
Currently I am creating a Linux system that runs directly from CD. Currently
the CD is working and I am using isolinux to boot the CD. The compressed
kernel is approximately 2 meg and the compressed initial ramdisk is
approximately 4 meg.

Desperate :( DomU with kernel in Dom0
Hello, maybe I''m stupid but I find no way to have the kernel in Dom0
instead of DomU for Centos 5.
Here is what I did:
Regular Centos 5 Dom0 install, then creating a LVM group (vms) and
install DomU with virt-install works perfectly:
virt-install --p --location=http://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/5/os/i386
--file=/dev/vms/centos5_data --name=centos5 --ram=512 --nographics

Ramdisk
On Centos 4.x 32 I want to create like a 64Mbyte ramdisk. Is there a
problem putting 30k to 80k empty files on a ramdisk? Is there a
simple howto on creating a ramdisk that anyone knows of off the top of
there head?

[PATCH][XM-TEST] Make sure rcS is executable before ramdisk build
This patch (against unstable) makes sure that the skel/etc/init.d/rcS
file is executable before building the final ramdisk image. This
should fix the problem some people are having with their ramdisk
builds.

ramdisk load
Hello!
I'd like to load a ramdisk with syslinux, but from another disk.
And I've found this in the syslinux faq:
"An initrd is loaded from a DOS file if the option "initrd=filename"
(where filename is the filename of the initrd image; the file must be
located in the root directory on the boot floppy)"

Netconsole capability in ramdisk
I'm supporting a number of consumer devices (e.g. small NAS devices)
in Debian. They typically don't export the serial console and don't
have any other output devices. We perform the installation via SSH
on such devices and start SSH automatically when the system boots so
people can login. This works pretty well but sometimes a device stops
to boot for no good reason. This is

Odd Question... MAX Ram Disk Size
Greetings,
Before I get slammed, I've looked all over the internet for the answer
to this (googled and more) and haven't been able to find what I'm
looking for. Here's what I need. I have a server that I use to hold
workstation images. I use a Linux boot CD combined with some scripts I
wrote and some disk imaging software to allow me to image windows
workstations. Anyway, when
