Very slow samba performance on Centos 6
Hello all, I have 2 identical Dell r510 servers with 10gig card, running centos 6 with samba-3.5.4-68.el6_0.2.x86_64. I setup 16G ramdisk samba share on both and ran cp from local ramdisk to samba ramdisk mount. If I cp 12 1-gig files, I get combined 100MB/s transfer rate. Single file cp maxes out at about 15MB/s. Ftp transfer give me over 300MB/s. Running with 9000 MTU. Most smb.conf is default. I even disabled atime and tried e...

booting domU with multiple concatenated ramdisks?
Hi! Some bootloaders (eg. syslinux) have to ability to load multiple ramdisks, effectively concatenating them. This makes it very easy to augment ramdisks, like eg. customizing an installer. Can I do something similar with XEN? Separating the ramdisk cpio arhives with commas in the config file didn''t work... -- Thanks, Feri. ___________________________________...

pb with 2.5.x and ramdisk?
Hello, I have a problem with a 2.5.62 kernel and ramdisk. I am using isolinux to create a cd that loads some of its partition in ramdisk. The script involves mounting a ramdisk (e2fs) on /fake/ramdisk, copying part of the cd to that mount point, unmounting it, and remounting it on /fake/needwrite. The problem is that, although the content of /fake/needwr...

INITRD > MEMSIZE / 2
I?ve got a 512M machine and a 330M ( uncompressed ) initrd image. How can I mount the ramdisk? Normal booting seems to want to copy the entire initrd image into a Ramdisk, thus requiring 2X the memory. So what happens is the kernel boots correctly and I get, RAMDISK: ext2 filesystem found at block 0 RAMDISK: Loading 330000 blocks [ 1 disk ] into ram disk And then I never see the light of da...

[PATCH] libxl: do not overwrite user supplied config when running bootloader
...mpbell@citrix.com> # Date 1337273492 -3600 # Node ID cdb947baea102aa6a1d53472f8a3e5f2d6cc485e # Parent ac45608496cd85b0bf1aed6e5b869b4a86ca672f libxl: do not overwrite user supplied config when running bootloader. Currently when running the bootloader libxl will update b_info->u.pv.kernel, .ramdisk, .cmdline and .bootloader. This can expose internal details, such as temporary paths in /var/run/xen/bootloader.*/ to the user. This is problematic because it means that the user cannot re-use the struct as is. This does not effect xl in Xen 4.2+ since it always reparses the guest config and rein...

File access in Apache 2.4 (clarification)
...he fails to find even the directory. Here's some extra information SELINUX is disabled. MEMDISK reset computer with NW Client32
Hi! I have problem with MEMDISK, because when I load modules in NW Client32 using NIOS.EXE commands, computer is restarted :-( Not everytime, but manytimes. The problem is with MSDOS 5.0, 6.22 and FreeDOS too. But when I create in DOS another RAMDISK and copy all data from MEMDISK to new RAMDISK and change settings and PATH to new ramdisk, all work fine. Directly from floppy or from HD all work fine too. But two ramdisk is not good situation. Does anybody have some experiences, how to debug this problem? I hope, i will be certainly some l...

TFTP & Network after booting kernel
Hello all, We are trying to make our own NFSroot via PXELINUX without the e1000 ethernet module compiled into the kernel. All works fine, we have a ramdisk that can setup networking from information provided by $ip, however I would like to download the specific e1000.o via tftp before inserting it into to the kernel. Since ramdisks are static I rather not have the situation where we have to recreate the ramdisk everytime we install a new kernel. So th...

pxelinux 2.11 unable to mount root fs
Hi, I've been using PxeLinux to boot our Debian kernel successfully for some time now. I recently increased the size of the ramdisk from about 484 MBs to 517 MBs and encountered the following error during bootup: --- RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0 Freeing initrd memory: 105519k EXT3-fs: Magic mismatch, very weird! cramfs: wrong magic sh-2021: reiserfs_read_super: can not find reiserfs on ramdisk(1,0) Kernel panic:...

RAMDisk vs Extarnal server for recording
I'm having loads of problems with recordings, as in crappy audio quality and lost pieces of the recordings. I've been searching for a solution and the solutions i find on the interwebs include a ramdisk, for local recording, or another machine, handling the recording. I guess the ramdisk would be the "easy" solution and the external machine would be little harder to set up. I do actually prefer the external machine, but i'm not exaclty sure how to set that one up... The reason I pre...

LVM mirror database to ramdisk
...disk, the speed of database access might improve. I use local LVM for my virtual disks with DRBD on top to mirror the disk to a backup server. If I change grub.conf to increase RAM disk size and increase host RAM, I could create a 35G RAM disk. I'd modify rc.local to add pvcreate /dev/ramdisk vgextend vg /dev/ramdisk lvconvert -m 1 --corelog vg/lv_database /dev/ramdisk Even with lv_database being 35G, it doesn't take long to activate the mirror. I haven't decided where to put the commands to turn off the lvm mirror. lvconvert -m 0 vg/lv_database vgreduce vg /dev/ramdis...

Question concerning booting from Floppy Drive
...to the isolinux development. It has been the solution to many of my development needs. Currently I am creating a Linux system that runs directly from CD. Currently the CD is working and I am using isolinux to boot the CD. The compressed kernel is approximately 2 meg and the compressed initial ramdisk is approximately 4 meg. What I am interested in is using a floppy to boot the kernel and initial ramdisk which are on the CD. Is the a way to use a floppy to boot strap the isolinux system which is on the CD, or if this is not possible, or just a bad idea is there a way to boot the kernel and i...

Desperate :( DomU with kernel in Dom0
...5 Dom0 install, then creating a LVM group (vms) and install DomU with virt-install works perfectly: virt-install --p --location=http://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/5/os/i386 --file=/dev/vms/centos5_data --name=centos5 --ram=512 --nographics I get a working domU but the config file has no kernel or ramdisk parameter and the kernel seems to be inside DomU I created my own cfg then, using this parameter: kernel = ''/boot/vmlinuz'' ramdisk = ''/boot/initrd.img'' root = ''/dev/xvda ro'' name = "centos" memory = "512" d...

Hello! I'd like to load a ramdisk with syslinux, but from another disk. Netconsole capability in ramdisk
...tops to boot for no good reason. This is usually really hard to debug since we don't have any logs at all. For kernel messages, I could probably activate netconsole in the kernel. Even this is a bit tricky since we often cannot change the kernel cmd line but I could probably use klibc in the ramdisk to setup the network and then configure a dynamic netconsole. My big concern is with userland messages, though. I want to see what the ramdisk is doing, ideally up to the login: prompt. In other words, I want to have everything sent to the serial console broadcasted to the net. I'm aware sy...

Odd Question... MAX Ram Disk Size
...nux boot CD combined with some scripts I wrote and some disk imaging software to allow me to image windows workstations. Anyway, when I roll out a new workstation Image, I may roll it out to 20 or 30 computers at once, all using the same image file (base build). I want to put that image file on a RAMDISK on my server. The image file is between 3 and 4 gig. I have 6 gig in the server, so plenty of memory. I modified GRUB to increase the size of my ram disk... First I started with a 200mb, that worked group, formatted, etc. Then I tried 1gig - everything looks like it works but when I mount it, it...
