The differnce below: the currenet system has more modules before excuting the LVM operations. these modules is dm-mem-cache.ko , dm-message.ko and dm-raid45.ko which depends the others. I know the centos 5.5 ' s kernel is 2.6.18. which has dm-raid45.ko module. I do not know which changes to 2.6.34 about LVM. I think the errro is about the LVM. Anyone can give me answer or advice. Intel ICH9R Raid5 Recovery
...Is there a way to recover the data? I heard dmraid supports ich9r raid volumes, but I keep getting an error saying unsupported map state 2. I found out that dmraid doesnt' support raid 5 (at least not on a ICH9R chip). I heard about this patch: http://people.redhat.com/heinzm/sw/dm/dm-raid45/, but I'm not sure how to apply it to a linux live cd. Does anyone have any idea? Is there maybe a way to reset the metadata to make the intel controller boot the array anyway? Russ

Removing LVM
I have a CentOS 5 machine in which I'm trying to remove lvm. I dd'ed the file system to another partition, then dd'ed it back overwriting the lvm partition. I then modified menu.lst and fstab and replaced the paths to point to the correct device. When the system boots it's still looking for lvm. I can restore the system back to where it was with lvm, but I'm not sure what

Recover ICH9R raid5
...d and offers me no option to repair it. I heard that dmraid supports ICH9R raid. Is there any way to get the data off of there? When I try to use dmraid of a knoppix live cd it complaints about an unsupported map state 0x2. I heard there was a patch http://people.redhat.com/heinzm/sw/dm/dm-raid45/, but I'm not sure how to apply that to a LiveCD. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can recover the data? Maybe I can just change the metadata and force it to boot the array? Russ

recognizing correct number of cores on CPU
I just installed centos 5.5 x86_64 on a new HP laptop. It has the core i5 processor. only 1 cpu is detected should be 2. This has happened before. Is upstream not keeping up with new processors released and updating the kernel? I'd rather not go through the process again of putting a newer kernel on the machine and having something different out there than "stock" centos. Jerry
